Why the **** do I like music? Why the **** do I like music?

I'm sure this has been asked in SMP before but lets get some updated and new-and-improved answers:

A - Objectively/Scientifically) Why do I like music? Why does it make me want to snap my fingers? Why does it make me want to dance? Why does it make me feel good? Why can it change my mood? Why the **** does it influence my mood in such a way that the song I listen to in the morning can affect the way that my entire day turns out? What does the best evolutionary research have to say on the matter?

B - Subjectively) Assuming that music can influence my mood and therefore my day: how can / should I use this to my best advantage? Am I, analogously, closing holdem manager while eight-tabling when I begin my day without listening to The Beatles? I have heard that listening to sad music after a break-up or some other hard time is actually 'good' for you... thoughts (i.e. anecdotal evidence)...&etc.?

edit: C - post scriptum) Is it worth-while for me to put time and effort into the songs that I play in my car on the way to work? Maybe I'm missing out on what evolution unknowingly gifted me?

Well my guess is, its a really old meme. Now, if your gonna ask how it originated I can only say, the same way Bieber fever did.

Supposing it's true that we're ultimately waves of energy, music going through us seems like a massage. ::shrug::

Was reading a book about the origins of Jazz music and there was reference to early African call and response which has its roots in civil and religious discourse. I imagine it may have evolved from earlier hunter gatherer communication aiding in timing during big hunts and territorial wars, which itself could have evolved from our early monkey days...Ooooo ooooo oooo eeeeeee eeeeee eeeee! I wouldn't be surprised if early forms of music predate language.

Edit: this could help explain why I like this song

Aligning a group into the same mood may be very fit. Music does this very well.

Music predates language AINEC. And that song is good...always the concert closer by a band I've seen live thrice...no wait, four times (really wasted the last time I saw them)

I have Lost Dogs by PJ, and Yellow Ledbetter is on that double disc compilation of rarities and extras...hidden track though is where it's at...4/20/02, commemorating the death of one Layne Staley, the greatest artist to emerge from early nineties Seattle IMO

There's a direct connection from your ears to the part of the brain that controls movements, which bypasses the part that processes and interprets sound. This triggers the reflex to jump and turn your head when you hear a sudden sound, before actually thinking about what this sound was. I'm guessing this has something to do with why we like to move in sync with rhythmic music, though I haven't read any research on this matter.

If this is true it could be an evolutionary early adaptation for spotting predators.

I've understood that's the reason why it is there, yes.

You've been conditioned to it. There's no deep connection between Western music and whatever; other cultures have music that is nothing like ours and they still respond to it.

Music acts as a metronome for your brain. Your brain uses it to sync the clock rate of it's various processors. This creates less interference and results in a more energy efficient brain. A more efficient brain is an evolutionary advantage.
