The embassy complex — 21 buildings on 104 acres, according to a U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee report...

“Embassy Baghdad” will dwarf new U.S. embassies elsewhere, projects that typically cover 10 acres. The embassy’s 104 acres is six times larger than the United Nations compound in New York, and two-thirds the acreage of Washington’s National Mall.

“The presence of a massive U.S. embassy — by far the largest in the world — co-located in the Green Zone with the Iraqi government is seen by Iraqis as an indication of who actually exercises power in their country,” the International Crisis Group, a European-based research group, said in one of its periodic reports on Iraq.

I was curious what people thought about this embassy complex thats supposedly bigger than the Vatican.

I'll sum up my usual rant by just saying that it seems very excessive to me because it does not indicate any desire by the US government to allow Iraq to be Iraq.

If it's going to be that big I'd imagine it will have lots of activities for Iraqi people to do and give them a sense of what America is like for many years. Sounds pretty win/win to me.

Yea, I think the important question is if it's worth it though. Especially in these economic times and when our country is already so wasteful/inneficient. Seems a little extravegant to me.

Yeah, it'll probably have tennis courts.
