They seem to have legs up front.

I think you can eat those. Bear Grylls once took a bite out of one even bigger than that. Spit out brown juice, it was disgusting.

Rhino Beetle Larvae. Guess it wasn't as quite as big.

"Worst thing he's ever ever eaten" is really saying something.

ewlgh. Yeah, they eat them on Survivor some years. Could also be a caterpillar. But my guess is still some sort of grub. Def not a slug though.

It is some form of larvae or grub (immature stage of many beetles). If you dig about in the soft ground or in old rotting logs you can find a lot of them. Favorite food of bears for example.

Either that or it is David Sklansky looking for a poker game.

Actually that thing moves about very well, it could be a type of caterpillar.

I figured that's what it was, just so big is all. (no scale but probably 6 inches). Never saw a big enough bug that that could turn into.

So crazy how aggressive everything is in back country. You see how that blind worm just sort flips around at me like it'll take me on when I flick it that last time? Everything out there is like that. There were these big cockroach looking things that would do the same thing -- hiss at you and charge you like they owned the place if you kicked them.

Hector, more info. Did you notice anything else, like was any ground disturbed or broken logs etc, because as Zeno pointed out, grubs and larvae typically live underground or inside things. If it was just moseying around or maybe fell out a tree, it could be a rather large caterpillar. The way it walks reminds me of one.

This was not central oregon lol. Then again central oregon is defined as Redmond, Bend, Sisters, Madras, Terrabon, and Tumalo. If there was a bug that big in central oregon I would have known about it.

I've cut my lifeline, and it's sink or swim.
Not sure what's going to happen here.
If anyone needs me, I'll be in hell.

Man, they have one serious selection of premium beers at the grocery now. All kind of craft brewed beers, IPA's, double IPA's, Imperial Stouts, etc. I picked up bottles of La Fin Du Monde, Firestone Double Jack, and 90 Minute Imperial IPA brewed by Dogfish Head Brewery that used to make Zeno. That was voted best American beer 3 different years. They had O'Fallon's Pumpkin beer too. I plan to do some drinking. None of that is cold though, so I picked up a case of Negra Modelo for while that's all chilling.

I finally made it to the fam's, slightly buzzed now out of necessity. And I just noticed the stern look your cat is giving me, Bruce. Don't judge me cat.

Did you pick up the O'fallon? What city are you shopping in?

Did you click on my name to see the big cat pic?

I didn't pick up the O'Fallon. I don't really like pumpkin stuff, and I see that it doesn't have a very good rating. There's another one called Good Gourd Imperial Pumpkin Ale that is supposed to be World Class. Actually all 3 that I picked out turned out to be rated World Class. I only knew about La Fin Du Monde. They had a seemingly never ending selection.

Here are some interesting names, and these are all highly rated:

Arrogant Bastard Ale

The Event Horizon (5 different breweries have a beer by this name lol)

Tunguska

Also, The Tunguska Event by Apocalypse Brewing Company

Just for fun I looked up the review of Camo Black Ice. I've never seen ratings so low. This review is funny:

Smell: Smells very much like cheap Manischewitz wine mixed with kerosene, some diesel, and a hearty side of lawnmower engine oil/gasoline combination. Warning flags and klaxon alarms are going off in my mind.

Taste: Gargh!! Almost pure fusel alcohols! My eyebrows have spontaneously dissolved! And I think a part of my brain has dribbled out of my ear canal as well! Is this really even beer?

Mouthfeel: Texturally, it even resembles the thin and strident feel of solvents. Only carbonated. Carbonated Solvents. Hey, that sounds like a good name for a band, hmm.

Seriously, this is the very textbook definition STANDARD of fusel fumigation madness. Maybe there's a pinch of white grapes in the finish after the gasoline / kerosene explosion, but I'm having a hard time finding it while being preoccupied with extinguishing my chest hair.

Possibly this "brew" could also be utilized as paint thinner or to help remove those stubborn concrete driveway oil stains.

Sounds perfect for my redneck cousin. Will recommend.

Yes the bigger picture is quite a bit more ferocious looking. However, something about the pink background and that it's still just a house cat makes me want to cuddle.

It is truly horrific (the beer, not the cat). The review is accurate.

I'm no connoisseur. La Fin Du Monde doesn't taste significantly all that different than Negra Modelo to me. Sure makes me feel different though.

I think another advantage of La Fin Du Monde is it has a fragrance or aftertaste that stays with you that's kind of pleasant. I'd drink another bottle if I had one (that's a 25 ounce bottle at 9% alcohol). Taste wise I think it's a little thin. Think I'll try the Firestone Double Jack double IPA now.

Anyone ever had Leffe Brown? Belgian ale I believe. Delicious.

La Fin Du Monde is a Belgian Tripel. OK, now this Firestone Double Jack is significantly different. Very fruity. I don't think I like it.

While Brian is undoubtably smarter than us, from what I can tell intelligence is not your problem. It's where you're focusing it.
