Everyone having access to a similar language is like having a common worldly governing system of sharing communication about governance.

It's funny to think of humans as a young species and is just learning to communicate maturely in a process intensifying since the Printing Press and quickening by the Internet and Global travel. We are all babies, a cosmic joke collection and talking about it.

My response to that yesterday was to declare prohibition is an addiction to violence and the urge to control others. Demagogues like that are drug dealing.

I corrected a great injustice and parenting error and took my son out for samosas and pakora for the first time today.

Never had any. Looks from wiki references similar to some Greek fried dishes i remember with vegetables (eg from Zeno's garden) and flour used as appetizers. What did they put in them? Any meat too? Looks interesting.

I don't think it is possible to dislike samosas.

Pakora isn't for everyone.

They are both vegetarian dishes.

The meaty version is, as far as I know, called a "Cornish pasty."

Pakora are not just vegetarian and nor are samosas. Not a huge fan of Samosas but a good Chicken Pakora is excellent and nothing at all to do with a Cornish pasty.

How long till the 7 pints and a vindaloo right of passage?

Been meeting up with my PhD prof and an ex-colleague to tell them about my proposed revolutionary theory. (Work in progress.)

Good and possibly relevant article by John Baez:

They don't make the British or middle eastern or southern Indian 'abominations' (the family's wording, not mine) at this particular kitchen.

The owner actually yelled at my kid for saying (the owner overheard) that the pakora tasted a bit like it had chicken in it.

I don't understand the kid. Not even an occasional beer goes missing. Gingers are weird and largely unteachable.

For a genuine Cornish Pasty see link. Leave it to the nit Brits to come up with an association like this.

Cornish Pasty Association

Does the EU dictate how much beef can go into a single Cornish Pasty? I bet they would if they could.

I've forgotten a lot of maths since graduation from not using/needing it.
If anyone wants to brush up, or is struggling in college, there's a fun maths teaching program called Calmat written by some Glasgow University you can download for free.

http://www3.ul.ie/~mlc/support/Calma...ml/calmat.html
https://dspace.ndlr.ie/handle/10633/2320

It's much more effective than video lectures because it's interactive. It goes from low level up to about 2nd year college. Doesn't work on 64-bit Windows 10. Need a VM.

Keeping Thailand in my pocket for the moment, and staying away from the obvious, perhaps a slap at Kashmir, or Malaysia, or the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in china will be next.

"The problem started because the mosque was built near a (Buddhist) pagoda. The Muslim people refused to destroy the building when the Buddhists discovered it," Moe Lwin, a local police officer, told the AFP news agency"

If you built it... they will come... and burn it.

This is nothing of course compared to this;

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-36692613

"Twenty people, most of them foreigners, have been killed in an attack on a cafe in Bangladesh claimed by so-called Islamic State."

Idiot people that cant get it that they believe in all kinds of bs and its time to abandon all this crap left and right of this. But no, we have to be different in all kinds of irrational and irrelevant things so that we can continue to multiply and fight.

How sound is this analogy? it comes from a debate / conversation I had with my gf:

Say the government finds that facebook's messaging service is being used to transfer child-pornography files.
Say the government tells facebook "you are in trouble for allowing this to happen."

I made the following analogy...

Say its found that xyz power company is providing power to a house that is using the power for lights in the basement that are used to grow marijuana plants.
Say that the government tells xyz power company "you are in trouble for allowing this to happen."

so.... how sound is it? i mean obv they are different but to me it seems like it fits all the same criteria
