And many other gems from the faith-based community:

Here's another:

-------------------------------------------------------------------

[about a girl being born with mental disabilities]

This girl is like a leper so what she needs to do is try and find god

if she really believes she can be healed from this state, she will be healed from this state

Most afflictions like this are caused by sins committed while still inside the womb. If she can repent for what she does god will embrace her and make her as human as you or me but if she chooses not to she'll always be like this

god tests every one of us [emphasis added]

------------------------------------------------------------------

Holy Chimichinga! What could the poor fetus do in womb? Masterbate? Flip off it's mother? Strum satanic songs on the umbillical cord? Sheesh!

I think its fairly obvious that every Down's kid and every amputee in the history of human civilization just hasnt wanted it bad enough.

Gravity: Doesn't exist. If items of mass had any impact of others, then mountains should have people orbiting them. Or the space shuttle in space should have the astronauts orbiting it. Of course, that's just the tip of the gravity myth. Think about it. Scientists want us to believe that the sun has a gravitation pull strong enough to keep a planet like neptune or pluto in orbit, but then it's not strong enough to keep the moon in orbit? Why is that? What I believe is going on here is this: These objects in space have yet to receive mans touch, and thus have no sin to weigh them down. This isn't the case for earth, where we see the impact of transfered sin to material objects. The more sin, the heavier something is.
yikes

It's ironic that they'd try to sum something up, when they can't even add words.

Winner.

Here's yet another:

[Talking about an eleven year old girl who was raped and then buried alive]

god was sacrificing this child as a way to show others the light. much as he did his own child. what a beautiful gift he has given us.

With enemies like these, how can we lose? Each post seems more bizarre than the preceeding one.

Not buying it. I'd like to, but these have to be levels. (They have to be...)

obviously these are the "cream of the crop," hand-picked for stupidity. christians could probably find a bunch of moronic atheist quotes to ridicule also. I have to admit that i did get a kick out of reading these anyway though.

my favorite:
Everyone knows scientists insist on using complex terminology to make it harder for True Christians to refute their claims.

Deoxyribonucleic Acid, for example... sounds impressive, right? But have you ever seen what happens if you put something in acid? It dissolves! If we had all this acid in our cells, we'd all dissolve! So much for the Theory of Evolution, Check MATE!

Ridicule is one thing, but some of these are beyond ridicule and passed 'extremely worrying' a long time ago w/o collecting 200 dollars.

Oh I don't know, these comments are littered with science and philosophy (in the most literal sense, like littering a highway) and the subject line most certainly has some math.

So I guess three out of four ain't bad.

Yikes is right, granted you could probaly find a lot of atheists in the world who think the only reason there is no God is because he was killed by Mao or some russian dictator.

And let me assure you reading this stuff infuriates a christian more than it bothers you.

This quote is representative of every theist I've ever met (regardless of which church)

Quote:
When I see a child, especially children of non
christians, I always think of how that child is being brought up not being told
about the Lord. We shouldn't have to wait until that child grows up (IF they live
that long) to tell them the Good news. I can understand your point though but
the difference is that we KNOW the truth. Other faiths do not.
And all of them use the same level of proof... because they have Faith, it must be true.

I'm with madnak - the "...what a wonderful gift God has given us." quote was just too much. (Fingers crossed)

Wow good job guys. I bet it took a lot of intellect to refute these faith-based arguments. Thanks for sharing. A+ would read again.

There is nothing about being a theist which requires you to claim certainty. While the evangelical believers are probably more likely to be sure about their beliefs, I dont accept that all theists would make this claim (I certainly dont).

to be fair I should say a denominational/dogmatic theist (you're a theist who doesn't ascribe to any particular faith, correct?) I think you're in minority.

My brother, for instance, is a Christian (Born Again) who says with complete certainty not only that his religion is correct, but that the teachings in his specific church got it right.... any other interpretations other then being taught to him are simply wrong.

When I ask to explain... he 'just knows.' (I guess Peter would say he has the 'grace of faith.')

The reason I go on about it is that I dont think I am in a minority (though America may be different). Most religious people I know admit a large degree of uncertainty - whether catholic, protestant, quaker or something more extreme. I think the evangelical theists are more likely to claim certainty and I suspect this is due to a belief they are more likely to convert people if they promise certainty than if they confess to being unsure in their religious beliefs. In contrast, I think it can still be satisfying to acknowledge spiritual beliefs even if conceding those beliefs are irrational or that they are likely to include some mistakes.

Some of these are definitely fake, for instance:

My favourite is easily this one:

Quote:
One of the most basic laws in the universe is the Second Law of Thermodynamics. This states that as time goes by, entropy in an environment will increase. Evolution argues differently against a law that is accepted EVERYWHERE BY EVERYONE. Evolution says that we started out simple, and over time became more complex. That just isn't possible: UNLESS there is a giant outside source of energy supplying the Earth with huge amounts of energy. If there were such a source, scientists would certainly know about it.
