Hi,

I know this might not be the most appropriate forum in which to post this but feel that the majority of posters here have a science education so it is my best bet for info.

Basically, I'm studying finance, completing my degree this summer. Want to work in finance but want to delve into the more quantitative parts of it. I want to apply to the top master's in financial engineering programs in the U.S. but they all require heavy mathematics or computer science backgrounds.

What is the best way for me to attain such a background as to gain admission in those programs? Should I do a second bachelor's in math or is there anyway I can gain admission into a master's program (where I would have to do some kind of pre-qualification coursework)?

Self-study isn't really enough as I need someone to "certify" my education, aka a school.

I have been delving into computer science for the past weeks and enjoy it, I have always like mathematics but just never pursued a formal education.

Any suggestions as to what I should do? Thanks a lot.

There's an active thread in the Programming subforum titled "Masters in CompSci with no prior experience"

you need to talk to the admissions guy/girl and be like i wanna do this and here's why. Now, what do i need to do to A. get in and B. be prepared enough to stay afloat.

basically all i'm saying is contact the schools. See what they want. You don't want to go overboard with formal education just to get into a Masters program, if you can fill in the gaps yourself. you want to be as young and dumb as possible when starting a finance career of this type imo. Cindy ty.
