some advantages to anthropomorphizing as many creatures as you can:
i) you'll never lose a compassion showdown;
ii) self-righteous indignation just feels good. imagine being able to say, ''hey, what if spiders have feelings? what do you think that guy's wife will feel when she discovers her husband has been squashed? how would you like it if i squashed you?" mmm, taste the victory that is unassailable virtue;
iii) improved declarative and episodic memory! narratives are easier to remember and personifying abstractions and objects makes them easier to fit within a narrative.
