I was wondering if anyone has identified any new global trends recently. I was doing my usual youtube surfing and came across this one. A pretty big one since its aimed at world peace.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FnMUT9ZyhiQ

The youtube link related this info: The United Religions Initiative (URI), founded by Bishop William E. Swing (The Seventh Bishop of the Diocese of California of the Episcopal Church), was inspired to bring people of diverse faith into cooperation for peace by the example of the work of nations of the world through United Nations working to bring peace. The movement to found it began in 1996, culminating in the signing of the United Religions Initiative Charter in 2000.[1] "The purpose of the URI is to promote enduring daily interfaith cooperation, to end religiously motivated violence, and to create cultures of peace, justice and healing for the Earth and all living beings."

The URI emphasises a decentralised, grass roots structure that includes not only representation of the world's major religious organizations, but also other voices not often heard. It complements the work of and collaborates with other local and international interfaith organizations, such as the Council for a Parliament of the Worlds Religions."-end of link quote

I found this to be a very profound trend so I was hoping people could list and say a few words about any trends in any category not necessarily religious that they see occurring in the world today because seeing this made me curious about what else might be going on in the world that I wasn't aware was taking place.

Global peace is a pipedream, Grasshopper. You can't have wet without dry, day without night, etc.

Cool!

I'm also starting an initiative to end the use of all fossil fuels on the planet. Would you like to join my effort to better the planet? We CAN save the ozone!

Just how possible is this? I've been hoping they would come up for some suitable alternatives for fossil fuels for a while now. Maybe that's why the oil prices skyrocketed. With all the global warming alarms and governments starting to crack down on things the oil companies decided they had to go for one last shakedown of the consumer before oil usage fades into the sunset. At least we have the Prius on the horizon. If they can make one non-fossil fuel car they can make another.

since when was the Prius a non-fossil fuel car? the only non-fossil fuel car that has been invented is the electric car, that got shot down by car/oil companies. unless the government forces the sale of electric cars and doesn't fold to pressure from car companies like they did here in california, we are going to be using every last drop of oil then natural gas for cars until there isn't any left.

As far as electric cars are concerned they haven't been shot down by car companies. The technology for propulsion has been around, is incredibly efficient and cheap. The problem is there is no battery that exists today affordable to the consumer that can hold a big enough charge and charge up fast enough to power the propulsion system alone.

Even this isn't exactly non-fossil fuel. Sure it doesn't directly use fossil fuels, but it uses electricity. There are nuclear plants and hydroelectric plants but the majority of the electricity is generated by burning fossil fuels. This doesn't really solve the problem. It lets you burn coal which is not going to run into problems as quickly as oil, but coal is dirtier and is also finite.
