Too dumb to figure this one out myself

I know the %, being 19
I know the final figure, being 6358.66
Now I need to know the figure on which the 19% was calculated

The answer and the way to solve this much appreciated

6358.66/.19 = 33,466.63

I`m sorry I must have phrased the problem wrong.

The solution must be in the 5150 ballpark
5150 +19% = 6128.5

What I wan to know is

X +19% = 6358.66

No problem, newb.
I just rearranged the equation to 6358.66*19% = 1208.15 to get my answer.
6358.66-1208.15 = 5150.50

I think we're on the same page now unless I read something wrong.

But that gives the wrong answer.

You can do it directly by dividing 6358.66 by 1.19 giving 5343.41.

Then check (just in case you don't believe me) by multiplying 5343.41 x 0.19 giving 1015.25 which, added to 5343.41, gives 6358.66.

x * 1.19 = 6358.66

x = 6358.66 / 1.19 = 5343.41

i think you mean this

Erm, that's exactly what I said.

That's what I get for multitasking and halfass doing math.

May we have an acidic arithmetic problem next, please?

Hydrazoic acid has pKa = 4.72. What molarity is necessary to create an aqueous solution of pH 3.10?

10^-1.48 M, IIRC. Not enough to make a decent-sized bang. What a shame.
