Tbh im not sure, i have many non scientific flawed arguments in my head that make intuitive sense - sort of.

South Americans predicted the Spanish before.

Millions of weird predictions from random books etc have come true - like some book i read called survivors that predicted the start of WW3 on the exact day we went to war with Afghanistan.
This leads me to believe its either law of averages or there is something guiding all these random predictions. Anyway this is just pointing out that maybe there is something we dont know about the world.

I also thought that maybe 2012 is when the earth has run its course.
Think about how exposed earth life is at the mo.

We see every type of life on TV radio movies. Then internet forums... How many threads are left to do? Answer- Very few. I remember someone in OOT pointing that out recently.

With this notion of us having seen about as much of human nature and stuff on earth as possible maybe the earth was designed to end in 2012.
Also the lizard arguments of our alien ancestors etc could have been smart enough to do this.

I dunno its all pretty crazy (like this crap post) but there are many interesting points and conspiracies centred around this. Anyone think 2012 may be more exciting than just the london olympics?

Come on, as far as knowledge goes we have hardly even started the race, to somehow believe we are at a 'peak' is delusional. 200 years from now and we'd probably compare to the humans of then like the 3000 year old tribal cultures do to us.

A bit surprised to see 2012 psycho-babble in SMP.

2 popular theories (of mine or of a crackpot; on this topic it doesn't really matter) are that either the magnetic field between the north and south pole will reverse, and that will cause many organism to die (like the omg bees are dying everywhere!) taking down the environment and human dependancies.

Other theory is that we as a human species will 'evolve' to other higher beings less susceptible to animal instinct and materialism, and why not, lets enter a completely different reality and space-time.

Then again 2012 is not even philosophy, has no valid theories just oddities and a whole lot of schizo's picking this date to push their 'we are workers of the Light'-idea.

That and I am not allowed to talk about this event anymore. Damn my digital radio clock signals me 11:11 and its not even that time! Spoooky!

How do you discredit the theories of the mayan calendar that to this day can still predict a lunar/solar eclipse to the nearest 33 seconds.
That calendar also predicted the fall of their own race.

Also i know we can still invent a load of new things but havent we as a society become overly saturated with perceptions of insignificant life, i.e. media/ tv.

I think weve uncovered all that is intuitively knowable (apart from maybe NLP psychology stuff) - unlike for example the ancient greeks.

predicting that the sun will rise is not the same type of prediction we are discussing here. this is called 'calculating'.

i thought this was over a long time ago when it was explained that they only said that this "end of time" was the time when the calender's cycle was over, so they would go back to whatever the start of their calender is.

Fortunately, I've discovered that when I make pancakes with Bisquick it pushes back the date that the world ends depending on the quality of the butter and the square of the number of pancakes I wish I could make. This number is also affected by the level of syrup in the container and how much sunlight it catches when I position it on the table. So far I have singlehandedly managed to push the end of the world out to 2020, a date I was told to hold at for a while by Hugh Downs.

lol well I actually went ahead and watched the video. Cliff notes for tl;dw: the theory is that there's a gaseous planetary body in a high, tilted orbit in our solar system which is going to go past the Sun inside Earth's orbit on 2012, causing solar storms, seas turning to blood, etc...
