Hell, the Colts were missing their best corner (Hayden) and Sanders.
Sorry one of the better pass Ds and one of the worst rush Ds (pretty much due to what you are saying).

even when they did give him time (mostly through uncalled offensive holding) he was holding the ball too long and getting hit anyway. he did the same thing against the niners.

i'm not saying he's terrible but warner is probably a little overrated due to his last season. he can be expected to decline for any number of reasons.

What are you talking about? Collins was "throwing lasers" all game long this weekend!

I kid, sort of, but it did look like he was making some good throws.

I guess I was thinking more along the lines of who I would want for the rest of the season, which is Brady and it's not super close. Rivers has better numbers through three games though, I can't dispute that

were it just rust i would agree, but brady has looked uncomfortable enough on his knee that i think it's close. palmer and manning had good seasons coming off of knee surgery too though so he should be fine

Like I said he was flustered and should have been pulled for Leinart earlier. It wasn't long into the game until this happened as they didn't block all night. Once you get into a players head he won't perform regardless of protection. I can't remember the 49ers game, or if i even saw it.

Beanie Wells, lil help?

-- excluded pennington b/c his career may be over. not even going to attempt to rank stafford or sanchez, but i would have them both low. no higher than the middle of the average tier

-- tier 2 is a cluster ****, but i'm confident w/cutler and up w/brady having the leeway to move to tier 1. questions abound for the qb's listed below them t so there is a lot of room for movement. considered breaking this into 3 groups w/the first cutoff at cutler and the second at rodgers, but i'm not sure the gaps are big enough esp for the 2nd break. also, i feel like i'm underrating flacco. i really think there should be a break somewhere in this group but idk where.

-- tier 3 members are mediocre but get hated on for being abysmal when they or their teams play poorly

I gotta go with Jamarcus.

Maybe I'm off base but on top of him sucking I get the impression that he could care less.

I think Al Davis is just enamored of black men with extreme physical gifts. He just grabs the strongest, fastest, 70-yard-throwin'-est black dude with his first-rounder every year. It's like he's putting together "Al Davis' Traveling Circus of Herculean Negroes".
This is pretty close to reality, imo - it's some combination of this and dudes that remind him of former Raider faves if he squints a little. Tyler Brayton, oh, Howie. I love Howie. Let's take Tyler Brayton.

Or you can ignore W/Ls and look at what he does. The one thing he does well is complete passes so he gets that. But yard per attempt, and adjusted net yards per attempt just aren't good. His sack% that has always been good is dropping to career low levels despite playing in front of decent lines on run first teams. Thats another thing. He moved the Jets from a run first team last season to rank 19th in rushing attempts and 13th in passing attempts.

I expect him to have the same impact on the Vikings throughout the season and that is not beneficial to the squads he has played for the last two seasons.

Haha, I think you're right-- he took Mike Mitchell in the 2nd because he reminds Al of Jack Tatum. So it's a combination of nostalgia and deep-seated homoerotic jungle fever, then.

In all seriousness, I'd say he has some kind of vengeful anti-intellectual streak against the modern game. I mean, he certainly doesn't seem to keep up with the times - this is hardly conclusive, but the last informed, up-to-date comment I can remember Al Davis making about football theory is something I read in a history book, where he was talking about having to deal with Buddy Ryan's 46 defense. That was the mid-eighties, and, well, perhaps not coincidentally, the last time the Raiders won anything. He clearly cares, tries to make big splashes, etc., but he really really seems to want to do things exactly the way he did them back in the day, pre-West Coast offense, before the invention of methodical, sophisticated, possession-oriented passing games. He'll take success when he can luckbox into it (Gruden) but he's never really comfortable with it, and deep down he still thinks the heart of the game is achieving and preventing bombs to Biletnikoff. Or something, I'unno. He definitely does look for these projected reincarnations of Casper and Hendricks and Long and Willie Brown and Michael Haynes over and over, and failing that, he definitely loves big flashy measurables over all else, which is why he consistently bombs on positions where those matter the least.

The Raiders went to the Superbowl just like 6 years ago or so and fell shy of another because of the tuck rule running a WCO with Gannon. Of course Al Davis went and canned Gruden for god only knows what reason and went and hired a bunch of unqualified coaches then started drafting like it was the Stabler/Lamonica era.

They didn't fire Gruden. The Raiders got 2 first round picks for Gruden and 2 2nd round picks (unprecedented). I've never heard of a coach being traded other than this case. I don't think most MVP level players would go for that much. It was insane at the time, although it didn't really help the Raiders that much.

Right. That's kind of my point. They had this one era where they got with the god damn oughts and played sickly efficient modern football, and it's like he was vaguely pissed the whole time and dropped the whole damn thing the first chance he got. WTF?

The Chiefs gave the Jets a 4th rounder for Herm Edwards. Only other case I've heard of.

Duane Brown is better this season but he was one of the worst LTs in football last season.

Sage could very easily be a starter for a handful of teams in this NFL and has shown what he can do behind a bad OL. I think he could make that Rams team more competitive if he is on it. I mean, Kyle Boller on a NFL roster is mind bottling.

Also I always feel that the 3rd QB spot should always always always be a player in development and every team should have a QB on their practice squad.
Totally sold, bring him to WNY next year. But seriously I said a couple yrs ago he could start for a handful of teams and everyone said I was crazy. Too bad the lol Sage play had to happen.

17. Kyle Orton
18. Shaun Hill
19. Brett Fav-ruh

I don't want to debate the specifics of my list, but the realization that only half of the teams in the league had someone I'd consider a bona fide reliable starting QB really emphasized how thin the position is and how tough it is to succeed.
