Still can't believe Farrell's ****** logic on letting Workman bat and letting Jay hit. Must've had the sunflower seeds swapped out for ****** seeds.

Sox prob gonna lose tomorrow with Clay going 2+ with 4-5 earned runs and then Cum Dempster just getting his **** stuffed for 3-4 innings of long relief.

Lestah wins game 5. Duh.

Then just gotta win 2 coinflips in Boston and hope Matheny eats more ****** sandwiches than Farrell between now and then. Peavy avoids the stretch and puts in an all time gritty performance in game 7 ftw.

I approve of this post. Nothing like leaving a fastball hitter with a HR swing on the bench to give up an out.

Dale Murphy with an elite MS Paint on Twitter discussing that the foul line is not equal to the runners line.

2/2 see this pretty weak diagram. Red x marks the spot of obstruction. Runner has established his line.

clark I don't think anyone disagrees it was the "correct" call. I think it's pretty rare and goes uncalled if m'brooks lays still.

It's great to see an official make a correct, controversial, close call that decides a huge game. NHL. the refs swallow their whistles at the end of close Stanley cup games. NFL refs hide their flags before the last play of the Super Bowl.

In my mind he clearly obstructed with his legs. It was probably unintentional. But still got in the way of the runner.

If middlebrooks lays still, craig probably doesnt trip and is safe anyway.

Yeah, intentional or not (and I think reflexively he flops around there trying to disrupt Craig from hurdling him), if he's not there in the basepath Craig scores standing. And isn't hurt. Blame it on the bad throw.

Peavy probably not getting a lot of calls in game 7 after calling out the umps after the game.

Of course he blamed Demuth and trashed him for the Game 1 call when Joyce made the calm but whose splitting hairs here

Two things up front.

A) It was the correct call, according to the rule book and by the letter of the law.

B) If Saltalamacchia had the ability to replicate the throwing accuracy of your average high school catcher, then all of this is a non-issue.

That said, that was the worst call that I have ever seen in sports. I can't remember a worse call. It's for sure the worst call that I have ever seen in baseball. The Armando Galarraga perfect game foul up was bad, but at least that's explainable by it being real time and somewhat difficult to call, even though you have to be brain dead to give the tie to the runner there in a perfect game.

Say those two are tangled up in an NFL game and there's a fumble, the ball is loose and both players are trying to get up to recover the football that is up for grabs. No one thinks that Middlebrooks does anything underhanded in that situation. You're just at home on your couch thinking to yourself "Craig sure is clumsy". No wife or girlfriend or recreational baseball fan was watching that at home and thinking "Wow! that Boston player just did something dirty!"

No, baseball found a way to take a natural act and arbitrarily penalize the fielder, and in doing so, found a way to manufacture an artificial decision for Game 3 of the Mother Loving World Series! Not even Allen Craig knew that he was safe when he was thrown out at home. One of the most unnatural calls I've ever seen made in a professional sports game and on the biggest of stages.... mmmm mmmm mmmm mmmm (shaking my head).

I agree with the fact that the let the players play argument is bull**** here. Non call is just as much a factor as making a call.

Remember when Dale Murphy's son made that terrible plea for his HOF-worthiness? That was cringeworthy. Murphy didn't even have anything to do with a narrative.

+1 Was watching at a party with the sound off, and said WTF at Middlebrooks/relief pitcher/Ellsbury murderers row lineup in the 9th.

Then the last play was a tragicomedy of errors. Hold the ball. Catch the ball. Get the **** out of the way instead of ****ing grandstanding after you miss the ball.

Obviously the call was correct, and the NESN announcers (including Eck, one of my childhood heroes) can go **** themselves with their bull**** "analysis".

So the call is correct but ump is wrong for calling it? GMAFB.

You have obviously never seen an actual blown call if you think it's worst call in sports.

I was totally fine with letting Workman hit in the 9th (until he pulled Workman after two batters in the bottom of the 9th). At that point you've breezed past Beltran and Holliday. You've basically gotta dodge Molina and it's Adams, Craig/Cruz, Jay, Kozma, Descalso. Meanwhile, your best arm Uehara is still available and St Louis has used 5 of their relievers (including their 3 best).

Also, Rosenthal is a certified P.I.M.P. Using Napoli versus a much lesser reliver in later innings with possible runner(s) on base makes sense to me.

Last edited by nedtw0; 10-27-2013 at 02:23 AM. Reason: whoops that was two batters not one in the bottom of the 9th
