Also given how slow this draft has gotten the last round of double picks is now a free for all.
Free for all?

MP,
There is no draft order in the final round. People can just post their picks at their convenience.

Terry Jones - Our 3rd Python member and the director of Holy Grail, Life of Brian and The Meaning of Life. Also created Ripping Yarns tv series and popular animated series Blazing Dragons which was turned into a video game later. He wrote screenplay for Labyrinth as well.

Kevin McDonald
- Foley's partner prior to, and during, Kids in the Hall. Helped found KITH with Foley and 2 others. Also has done lots of voice work for animated shows.

Here's a clip of him and foley: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y3tS8pDMmgo

It's recent, so when older and not in their 'prime' but pairing him with Foley is a no-brainer

I know my picks. My laptop crashed so I've been scrambling a bit but I will post them soon with brief writeups.

Actually, I'm calling a bit of an audible on one of them. Anyway, here's the first one:
Spoiler:

Ricky Gervais gets most of the credit, but Stephen Merchant is rightly credited as his co-writer, co-creator, and collaborator on many of his best, most well-known works, including The Office, Extras, The Ricky Gervais Show, and An Idiot Abroad. Also he's really tall, which is always funny.

Spoiler:

Constance Carmell. Sue Sylvester. The manager who offers to bang Steve Carell in The 40 Year Old Virgin. Various roles in Christopher Guest films. I think Jane Lynch is one of the funniest female performers alive, and her ability to inhabit a wide range of characters while still being hilarious will be a huge asset to my team.

haha, I didn't even realize I was making a pun.

BTW, most of you have probably heard that Norm MacDonald is taking over as host of High Stakes Poker, but he's also getting a new sports show on Comedy Central.

Jane Lynch is one of those people who I fully acknowledge is funny, but holy **** can I not stand her. Everything about her gives me a feeling that can only be defined as "the heebie jeebies" (which now that I think about it- is that phrase totally racist against jews? Am I racist for asking if it's racist?)

Oh and to be clear, I'm not hating on the pick at all. Just saying there's something about her that I really don't like nor can I easily explain.

I am pretty sure the Python's went in the right order, but someone could convince me otherwise.

Round 9 Pick 111:

Spoiler:

Ed Helms

The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Office, The Hangover.

Round 9 Pick 112:

Spoiler:

Larry Charles

Quote:
Although series co-creators Larry David and Jerry Seinfeld wrote the bulk of the show's episodes during the first five seasons, Charles was their second in command during this period.

Charles is noted for contributing some of the show's darker storylines and scenes; for example in the season 2 episode "The Baby Shower" Charles wrote a dream sequence in which the title character, Jerry Seinfeld, was killed. Charles's episodes also covered other controversial topics, such as Nazis (in "The Limo"), a psychotic stalker (in "The Opera") and a hospital patient committing suicide (in "The Bris"). In fact, Charles wrote an episode in the second season called The Bet concerning Elaine buying a handgun to protect herself, that was never filmed because it was felt by NBC, as well as some of the cast and the show's director, that the gun content was too provocative

Charles was especially instrumental in the development of Cosmo Kramer; he felt that "Jerry and George were so well-defined through Larry [David] and Jerry, that there was less room for me to, sort of, expand on those personas. But Kramer was very unformed at the beginning of the show and it gave me an area of creativity to, sort of, expand upon. So I spent a lot of time with Kramer because he was a character that I could have an impact on in the future of the show".[6] It was Charles who imbued in Kramer a distrust of authority (especially in his episodes "The Baby Shower" and "The Heart Attack"), and who created the character of Kramer's notorious unseen friend Bob Sacamano, after his real-life friend of the same name.
Quote:
In 1995 Charles left the writing staff of Seinfeld to join that of another hugely successful mid-1990s sitcom: Undrafted's Mad About You.
Quote:
Charles served as executive producer on two critically-acclaimed but short-lived programs, The Tick (where he wrote two episodes), and the Dilbert animated series, which he co-developed with Undrafted and co-wrote
Quote:
In 2000 Charles began his first job as a director, on Seinfeld creator Larry David's follow-up series Curb Your Enthusiasm. To date he has directed 13 episodes of the hit HBO show
Quote:
More recently, Charles served as an executive producer and writer on the hit HBO show Entourage for the first two seasons

Quote:
He has also directed the films Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan, Bruno, and Religulous- a documentary about Bill Maher's take on the current state of world religion.

Show Roster so far and plans for show:

Spoiler:

George Carlin
Bill Maher
Bill Hicks
Jon Stewart
Joe Rogan
Dennis Miller
Lewis Black
Katt Williams
Ed Helms
Larry Charles

Ed Helms' will mostly play the same role on my show as he did on the Daily Show. I'll have Jon Stewart introduce a topic, then Helms will be "out in the field" to report on the topic, and then the roundtable debate about the topic will begin. I won't necessarily follow this exact format every time, but Helms should appear at least once every two shows imo.

Larry Charles has a ton of comedic experience, but I'm most interested in his direction of Borat, Bruno, and Religulous, all of which followed a mockumentary format in which the comedy comes from getting the unknowing participants making absurd comments and/or reactions. Charles commented on this type of directing and how its much different than in normal films:

Quote:
In an interview with Rotten Tomatoes, Charles discussed how, because of the nature of the mockumentary process, he had to act as well, even if none of his performance made it to the screen: "We all, especially me, had to play a character as well. I wasn't Larry Charles when we were on the road. We all had to be in character, and we had to balance that with our aesthetic and logistical needs to produce the movie properly[...]The director also had to act."

Theres a ton of stupid people in this world, and having a segment where we send one or two of my panel out to talk to people could provide a ton of laughs. Heres a few clips from Religulous to show what I'm talking about:

Or perhaps I could target people like Wendy Wright who have high ranking jobs and appear to be total idiots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFjoE...090E3480CFAC56

Round 9, Picks 113 and 114

Spoiler:

This is the variety portion of my draft. I saw them in Vegas, and it was one of the better shows I've seen in my life. They're also hilarious, so the magic won't take away from the comedy, and as evidenced by their show on Showtime (and some of their bits in their live show), they're articulate (well, one of them is) and opinionated gentlemen.

Roster:
Louis CK
Ricky Gervais
Trey Parker
Michael Palin
Dan Aykroyd
Amy Poehler
Steve Carell
Thomas Lennon
Penn Jillette
Teller

Nath,

Screw you for taking Merchant.

Agreed. I chose to wait until the double rounds for them, and I was definitely afraid Assani would snatch them up before me.

Considering this a brag for my show: just found out Christopher Guest also directed that hilarious Super Bowl ad for Groupon with Timothy Hutton praising Tibet's curry.

I think I'll utilize Guest's comedic talents for parody commercials on my variety show.
