I listed You Only Move Twice. I have been rewatching seasons 4-6 so there is some bias towards those seasons in my list. Also I didn't want to list 25 episodes.

Yeah, I edited that out after re-reading your post. Still, Homer the Great and Homer vs. the Eighteenth Amendment probably both top five episodes of all time. (Obviously quibbling over which episodes are his best is my way of saying I like the pick.)

Homer vs The 18th is probably my favorite Simpsons ep ever, and clearly served as the inspiration for Boardwalk Empire, a show that would be better if Nucky was eventually shot somewhere by a catapult. Just on that alone I like this pick.

Ian MacNaughton (I don't think anyone's drafting him) directed the show.

Anyway, still like Assani's pick. Joe Rogan is definitely smarter than the average nutjob conspiracy theorist, although he's pretty off the wall and ridiculous about some things. His standup is also surprisingly sharp, seen him in ATL twice and he killed both times. Saw him within a month of Louis CK at same venue Rogan actually got the better reception between the two even though CK wasn't really on that night.

He's building a team full of guys who get ridiculously angry, but don't stop being funny while they do it, which I find entertaining.

joe rogan is a ****** conspiracy theorist. he could beat me up though.

edit: if you're sorting by audience reaction you should have already drafted dane cook and jeff dunham

Seen Louis CK multiple times. He generally gets the best reaction of any stand-up comic that I've seen at a comedy venue which is why I mentioned it.

Rogan's stand-up is funny. Definitely not a ******. Say this doubting you've ever actually listened to any Rogan stuff

For people who aren't aware what we're talking about regarding Rogan's political and societal stuff:

I think it makes Rogan kinda insane, but certainly not ******ed. A lot of smart people have really wild opinions and paranoia

Swartzwelder is pretty amazing, although being a recluse might hamper him a bit in this format.

They usually aren't mutually exclusive. Same with humor and intelligence.

But regardless, no need to devolve further in to politarding

PICK 59, RD 5

Spoiler:

Zach Galifianakis

Recency bias be damned: this guy is all-time funny. Although he's used primarily in feature films these days, he's well known as a stand-up and sketch comic in Los Angeles. His "Between Two Ferns" bits on FunnyOrDie are some of the most hilarious sketches I've ever seen -- the exact type of short I'll want on my variety show. His sensibility is sharp and bizarre, and he's versatile enough to share the screen with everyone from Christopher Guest to Chevy Chase.

Ya he's definitely a weirdo. My favorite Swartzwelder story.
Quote:
According to The Simpsons DVD commentaries, which at times contain apocryphal or even fictional comments, he used to write episodes while sitting in a booth at a coffee shop "drinking copious amounts of coffee and smoking endless cigarettes". When California passed an anti-smoking law, Swartzwelder bought the diner booth and installed it in his house, allowing him to continue his process in peace.

I'd rather Foley than Gilliam, if you want to talk trade. I wasn't dead-set on Gilliam-- Mike Judge is the guy I wanted doing my animation-- but director/animator types are rare and I had to lock one down.

Thoughts on other picks:

Idle, Aykroyd, Galifianakis obv all funny as performers. Love the "Bass-O-Matic".

I think the people panning the Rogan pick are being a little too harsh on it. He's not brilliant, but he's not a buffoon, either. He's the kind of guy whose fans will overrate his insightfulness and his detractors will underrate his intelligence.

I do have one name in mind that I think would have been the "right-leaning" comic fit there, but I think he sucks so I wouldn't have personally drafted him.

also i don't even agree that Assani necessarily needs to add right-wing loudmouths too. i mean he's almost kind of building a Daily Show type thing, which would work, and i'd probably watch it. i'd far rather watch something like that than one of the stupid Crossfire type yelling match shows which are totally unproductive and annoying.

This is true probably. He's no brain surgeon admittedly but he's sharper than most.

I'm just a major fan of those who have a career in the public spotlight and still call people on their **** and say what's on their mind. Everyone in comedy was talking about Mencia's antics. Rogan got up on stage with him and called him on it.

You mean when Rogan, as an act of self-promotion ambushed Mencia? Look I hate Mencia, but it's not like Rogan was just "telling it like it is" his move was motivated out of self-interest.

Do you know the backstory here or are you just assuming this was the case?

Trick question
