Rubbish. Home field advantage is about being used to the pitch, and knowing instictively the dimensions, surface and quirks of your own field, and getting used to the stadium.
Fine...but at the same time, we're not playing at Huish Park, or in Columbus in the middle of January.

I imagine you're putting so much emphasis on the crowd becasue away fans are such a relative rarity in the States
Well, which sport? I can tell you that the road following for a [name a Latin American nation, especially Mexico]-at-US match is always going to be fairly heavy. Keep in mind that Mexican league playoffs for the Copa Liberadores are held in Texas, in order to keep them on neutral turf while still being in an area where they are closely followed. Reliant Stadium in Houston typically sells out its 70,000 seats.

tonite's results from CONCACAF qualifiers

Cuba 1 T n T 3
Guatemala 0 1 USA

Mex 2 Honduras 1
Canada 1 Jamaica 1

Costa Rica 1 El Salvador 0
Haiti 2 Suriname 2

Really bad result for Canada drawing at home. I watched a lot of the Mexico game and Honduras looked pretty good and unlucky to lose.

I bet you are hoping that Great Britain fields a team for the London games. That's the only chance for a Scotsman to ever accomplish anything in international football.

Roster announced for the Cuba and T&T home games:

GOALKEEPERS: Brad Guzan (Aston Villa), Tim Howard (Everton), Troy Perkins (Valerenga).

DEFENDERS: Carlos Bocanegra (Rennes), Danny Califf (Midtjylland), Steve Cherundolo (Hannover), Jay DeMerit (Watford), Frankie Hejduk (Columbus Crew), Oguchi Onyewu (Standard Liege), Michael Orozco (San Luis), Heath Pearce (Hansa Rostock).

MIDFIELDERS: Freddy Adu (Monaco), DaMarcus Beasley (Glasgow Rangers), Michael Bradley (Borussia Moenchengladbach), Maurice Edu (Glasgow Rangers), Sacha Kljestan (Chivas USA), Danny Szetela (Brescia), José Francisco Torres (Pachuca).

FORWARDS: Jozy Altidore (Villarreal), Brian Ching (Houston), Charlie Davies (Hammarby) Clint Dempsey (Fulham), Landon Donovan (Los Angeles Galaxy).

Surprised to see Troy Perkins back in the fold. He was always solid in MLS and is apparently doing well in Norway though. It would be nice to have him back in MLS though, especially with the expansion.

Would rather see Marvell Wynne than Orozco, but I won't complain too much.

Midfield has some nice surprises: Freddy, Szetela, Sacha and the big one Jose Torres. Torres was born in Texas to a Mexican father and American mother and is only one month of way from his 21st birthday (the big date in being cap tied). It was unclear whether he was going to play for the US (like Orozco has) or Mexico (like Edgar Castillo has) especially since he gets starting action for the best team in Mexico. However, him choosing the US is big as it gives them another creative mid going forward, and with his good left foot he might be able to take over DMB's spot out wide until he gets healthy and in form. Or, it could mean DMB goes out right, Dempsey goes up top with Jozy and Landon plays a withdrawn forward/attacking mid role.

As for the forwards, Jozy's back which is obviously awesome, and Charlie Davies got called in. Now, I was down on him about a year ago because when he got called up he was flopping around all over the place. I think he's learned since then though, as his play (thought very sparse) at the olympics was awesome and he's the 3rd leading scorer in the Swedish first division.

Big improvements because there is no Eddie Johnson. Still would like to see Cooper and Rodgers but its not bad.
10-03-2008 , 03:49 PM
I'm very happy that Eddie Johnson has been left out, like everyone already knows he is decent vs Minnows just because of his size but if Jozy is the future he should be playing every national team game IMO
10-03-2008 , 04:01 PM
Yeah, thank you Bradley!
10-03-2008 , 04:02 PM
Torres plays at 10 pm EDT Saturday on telefutura if like me you have never seen him play.

Kenny Cooper was invited to join the team but turned a spot down citing a virus he picked up and a sprained ankle he's been playing with.

New central defender in the mix? Nevin Subotic, a US U-17 player of Serbian and Bosnian decent who grew up in Germany and wunderkind lusted after by all 4 countries, has been ruled ineligible to play for Germany at the senior level.

http://www.goal.com/en-us/Articolo.a...enutoId=928554

It's unknown if he'll choose the US over Serbia or Bosnia, but kid's a stud who locks down on top level forwards like Luca Toni week in and week out. He's going to some country a lot of good, even if does have ridiculous whiteboy cornrows.

Speculation over Subotic's international status has been rampant on BigSoccer for at least the last couple of years. If he rejects the U.S., I expect that most posters there will disown him Giuseppe Rossi-style.

My mostly uneducated handicapping of his choice -- 50 percent Serbia, 40 percent U.S., 10 percent Bosnia.

Yeah, but people over there make 2p2 posters look like rocket scientists.

In fairness, some forums are MUCH more readable than others.

Roster for the final qualifier against Guatemala on Wednesday:

GOALKEEPERS: Brad Guzan, Troy Perkins, Matt Pickens.
DEFENDERS: Jonathan Bornstein, Sean Franklin, Cory Gibbs, Clarence Goodson, Drew Moor, Michael Parkhurst.
MIDFIELDERS: Freddy Adu, Davy Arnaud, Ricardo Clark, Sacha Kljestan, Pablo Mastroeni, John Thorrington.
FORWARDS: Jozy Altidore, Conor Casey, Brian Ching, Kenny Cooper, Chris Rolfe.

Very young roster, but we've already secured a spot so let's see what happens. I'm really excited to see Sean Franklin, Kenny Cooper and Conor Casey.
11-17-2008 , 12:41 PM
Strange that Drew Moor got a spot and Marvell Wynne didn't. Sucks that Davies cant play, he looks the most likely to emerge with a starting spot in the hex. At least Cooper is finally the squad.
