FWIW I don't hate the english team, and generally root for them somewhat, it is just annoying having people bash the US team. I think we have a decent chance (based on draw obviously) to make a run in this upcoming cup. Our boys are playing great and most are all over the euro leagues, with varying levels of success.

I completely agree with this and had no idea why sven took him out. I thought they should have played through him a lot more too, and made him the focus of their attack. He basically stayed out on the right and I thought a more fluid role would have suited him and freed up their forwards (meanwhile Dempsey and Beasley had the freedom to switch sides, etc which I think was very advantageous.)

I said it earlier I just think Sven is the wrong fit for this team and Mex needs to sign a manager that suits the squad's talents, not one who will come in and try to fit a round peg into a square hole

this picture doesn't do it justice, but pregame, after the tornado watch, the hail, and torrential downpour, two, FULL rainbows (end to end) came out one on top of the other, starting/ending at the stadium. Pretty sure it's a strong favorite for coolest sky i'll see in my life.

England are certainly a quality side that have a legitimate chance to go deep in 2010, but it seems that they are generally overrated and their track record in major tournaments is pretty bad given the country's population and passion for the sport.

World Cup- Semi-Final Appearances

Germany 11
Brasil 10
Italy 8
France 5
Argentina 4
England 2

European Championship- Championship Match Appearances

Germany 6
USSR 4
Spain 3
Italy 2
France 2
England 0

In terms of historical success, England aren't in the same league as these traditional powers. In fact, they are probably closer to the likes of Portugal and Denmark.

Most are in Europe sitting on the bench or playing in some mid table Dutch or French side

Better than being stuck with players who can't get out of MLS.

I don't think Cashley is really a star player anymore. Incidentally, this is one of those things that English fans do that makes their team overrated - they get it into their head that their players are "world class" on the basis of their quality of play at their career peaks and then are stunned when they turn in mediocre performances at age 29 in international competitions.

This blew me away. I had no idea. England's national team is just a middling squad.

someone's a little bitter that the US has had just as much success as England in the World Cup for the past 15 years.

So far so good; it's not an unreasonable assumption to say that neither the US or Mexico will be the strongest team in their group

ray,

the rainbows were pretty insane, but the bright yellow SKY was what stuck with me. i don't think i've ever seen a yellow sky before.

To be fair to England, they have reached the last eight in the World Cup eight times. They are definitely one the of top 7 or 8 performing national sides historically, I just wanted to point out that the gap between them and the very top teams is sizable.

iplay,

i don't see the need to be fair to a nation that didn't even have the decency to show up when we hosted a major tournament.

Also...what are the chances of Adu and Cooper with the national team?

Cooper will definitely become a fixture, I think. He has too much skill, and he seems actually willing to learn. I do worry that his game doesn't fit in especially well with Bradley's system, but I think he'll get in to that "too good to pass up" stage soon.

As for Adu, I have no idea what's going on with him. He can't get off the bench anywhere. Maybe it's time he gave up on playing in a top league right now and went to Belgium or somewhere similar where he can actually get playing time and develop. It worked for Beas, Gooch and Baby Bradley.

Needs to pull a Lee Nguyen and play in the Ghanaian League imo.
