Yeah, it's an interesting question. I think the answers now and the answers next year will probably look a lot different.

Not that I'm a tennis bettor, but if I were going to assign percentages, I think I'd go

Federer 55%
Nadal 40%
Field 5%

I should possibly be giving the field more credit, but I don't think so. I don't think anybody we already have heard of is a realistic threat, and that means we'd probably need to see a Federeronian career out of somebody who gets started in a couple of years. That seems unlikely, to say the least.

EDIT: I don't think it will happen, but Nadal is now at least a credible candidate to win all four next year, and I think he's very likely to get 2+. Federer has a decent chance at 1 but I think 0 is more likely than 2.

you need an unknown to come in and win 17/40 (at least) against the most stacked field in history. not going to happen.

it's def v. interesting and could maybe be its own thread. the problem is i only want to read educated opinions and i have no idea who fits that criteria.

i've always found it interesting how after federer lost the french and wimbledon finals in 08 to nadal a lot of people said he was 'done' (not everyone of course, and a lot of it was clearly overreaction). he then went on to win 4 of the next 6, and the 2 he lost were five-set finals.

similarly after nadals loss in the french and withdrawing from wimbledon there was a lot of speculation as to whether he'd ever hit top form again, and of course now he seems to be playing his best ever stuff.

i think federer is too old to have as dramatic a turnaround as that again, but i could definitely see nadal going off the boil again and/or getting hit with injuries.

cashy's numbers seem pretty good i guess. my gut feeling is the 90 should be a hair lower though.

Rafa's game is hard on the body so this likely closer to the truth. 7 more majors is a lot. Plus Roger might get 1 or 2 more.

I agree it's unlikely, but I think it was also unlikely that Nadal would evolve into the all-purpose player that he has, and now you have what is looking like Federer 2 :The Quickening so soon after the man himself. There's some room for freaky ****.

These are related, of course; Nadal blowing up is probably why Federer won 4 of the next 6. And that 2009 Wimbledon was an incredibly tenuous 5th set marathon against Andy Roddick, a traditional Federer whipping boy.

Before Rafa gets Fed though he still still has to go through these 3 imo.
