I'll put in my .02 and guess we're third in the 22 pecking order and that it's going to come down to Aus/Qatar with Australia ultimately winning the bid. I don't think we've been too good at playing the politicking game and I have a feeling Jack Warner hurts us more than helps us. For fun I'm going to project England for 2026, China for 2030 and USandA 2034. This is all really ridiculous imo.

That said, I'm all for a 2022 Australia cup. It'll be just in time for me to be one year from 40. Nothing says mid-life crisis like a trip down under!

Also, I'd really like to see Russia get the 18 cup only because I'd rather go there to watch a cup than any of the other sites (which, in fairness, I've seen them all minus Portugal)

you're certainly 3rd faves at the bookies fwiw, but there's not a whole lot in it. (Aussies are the faves, and Russia for 2018)

I doubt the rest of the world would let England/USA host back to back

Russia have the best shot but are by no means a lock.

That sucks, I didn't realize we were third favorites at the bookies. Oh well, hopefully run good (read: "bribe well") one time?

Awesome stuff CP.

I went to the Colombia game on Friday. Weather was terrible, crowd was super-sparse, but it was a fun time regardless. #7 for Colombia wins "Bitch of the Year" award for falling over every time he touched the ball. He should've earned a legit penalty after getting pulled down in the box, but he'd been such a pussy the whole game up to that point that the ref just looked at him and shook his head. Awesome.

Agudelo looked good, but I honestly expected more. He wasn't the man-among-boys I was hoping to see, but I guess the last American to do that was Adu in the U-20 WC a few years ago when he was treating Brazil like his own personal bitch. Boss didn't play so I can't comment on him. Zahavi looked pretty good.

Lletget was a force in the center midfield, just always able to receive the pass, move, and pass the ball on despite having 2-3 guys on him at all times.

Also, it was nice to see a CONCACAF player nab a brace in that ManU Carling Cup game today.

Ladies and gentlemen, Jonathan Spector!!!!

Oh, you thought it was Chimichanga? Nah, that Mexican bum couldn't hit the net in 90 minutes of play against a team facing relegation.

Ah yeah well either would suck for me.

Are there drinking laws in Qatar or what sort of place is it?

Edit - Quick google search for Qatar resulted in a weather chart which says avg temp for June/July is around 105F/40C, a low of 80F/28C.

Yeah gl playing in that

They plan to build indoor stadiums and air condition them for the games.

That said, lol at Qatar getting it and I'd be happy to lay them at the market odds whatever that is.

4/7 in most places

Seriously why would you want to hold the WC there? For once just think of the fans ffs.

Indoor stadiums should not be allowed for a WC.

Qatar getting it would probably the biggest joke decision FIFA would ever make. All indoor stadiums? What would be the point of even building them? Would they get used afterwards? They'd probably turn them all into indoor ski hills.

http://iguide.travel/Qatar/Drinking

There is one liquor store, Qatar Distribution Centre, in Doha. To purchase things there, you must have a license that can only be obtained by having a written letter of permission from your employer. You can only get a license when you have obtained your residency permit and you will need to get a letter from your employer confirming your salary in addition to paying a deposit for QR1000. The selection is good and is like any alcohol selection of a large supermarket in the West. Prices are reasonable although not cheap. Alcoholic beverages are available in the restaurants and bars of the major hotels, although they are pricey. As far as non-alcoholic drinks go, be sure and hit some of the Indian and Middle Eastern restaurants and juice stalls. They whip some tasty and exotic fruit juice combinations that really hit the spot.

It is forbidden to bring alcohol in to the country as a tourist; at Doha airport customs xray bags and will confiscate any bottles of alcoholic drink. They will issue a receipt valid for 2 weeks to reclaim the alcohol on exit from the country.

So you can drink, but only at hotel bars unless you have a letter from your employer, lolol.

Can't imagine FIFA being cool with the idea of bringing millions of people who just want to watch soccer and drink to a country that hates alcohol.
