the problem is that Ben-Arfa is better than brek and plays the same position. Unless Brek was put on the right (again, this depends as obertan is there and has looked solid so far), I can't really see newcastle being the best option.

I think either of the two german teams mentioned, anderlecht, or bolton would probably be his best options. I just want him to go where he'll have a better chance of playing

--Obertan has looked poor for Newcastle this year in all but maybe 1 or 2 games where he's been just OK.
--Along with Fabricio Coloccini and Tim Krul, one of Newcastle's best players this year is LW Jonás Gutiérrez who they just signed to a new long-term contract.

Of those English teams mentioned, Stoke City would be interesting. They are expected to pick up a winger in January and he would play this year as Stoke only have two creaky wingers (Pennant and Etherington) despite playing 4-4-2 all the time.

I said like Newcastle... A decent, but not exceptional, side in a major league.

P.s. This guy's posts in positional depth charts are pretty solid and thought provoking (including reminding me that every time I've seen him play, I wonder why Geoff Cameron isn't getting a look either at CB or DM)

ETA: his current first 11 - Howard; Pearce, Boca, Gooch, Chandler; edu, Bradley; Brek, Deuce, Landy; Jozy.

Even though Pearce is meh, hard to say anyone is a "bad" option ATM given the options - I'd like to see Dunivant given a shot, and hope Lichaj and Chandler work it out between them once he's fit. Holden comes in for Edu when/if he's back on the field.

A regular thread reader (basically whenever there's new posts) just saying I appreciate the constant updates. This is a far better source of info than regular news stories. Thanks everyone for your contributions.

Looks like we are going to play Slovenia in the November window according to US Soccer's facebook page.

No word if Koulibaly(sp) will be officiating.

Yep, our November dates are finally set. France on the 11th and Slovenia on the 15th. These are about what was expected, I think. I personally wouldn't have minded playing something like Slovenia and then one other lesser team as well, but playing France should be fun. Unfortunately due to the MLS playoffs we could end up missing some key players. Maybe Real SLC will make the finals from the west meaning Landon and Brek should both be available, but Beckerman wouldn't be. Go Real!

Caleb porter named u23 head coach, will remain hc at akron. I think that's a really smart move for us and frankly akron.

Tab ramos new u20 hc.

Camp in Germany next month for both teams, ramos and reyna running it. Glad reyna us involved.

He should be well-placed to give advice on how to deal with an undeserved elbow to the napper to his young charges. I bet that poor bastard still has a headache. I'm pretty sure when that happened either the commentator or my old man suggested that he might have dived.

I still remember watching that game. That elbow was disgusting from that bitch Leonardo. They should have let Balboa bicycle kick him in the head to even things up.

Really like Caleb Porter getting the U23 and Tab makes a lot of sense at the U20. Good decisions imo.

Porter coaching the u23s and akron is pretty borderline as to what's fair in the ncaa imo.

Don't matter though, michigan took them out last week.

Does the NCAA have a problem with Coach K coaching the US mens basketball team?

It's obviously legal, but it's a huge advantage in soccer and is a huge contributing factor to Akron's success thus far.

Like the NCAA has strict rules on coaches contact in recruiting, but Porter got to coach a ton of his recruits in his prior role in the youth system.

I understood your gripe, I just don't see the NCAA doing anything about it. As I said, its obviously a good move for Akron, or if he goes to another college. You have to think he's positioning himself for something above that though.

However, honestly IDGAF, its good for US soccer and that matters far more to me than collegiate soccer which could not be more irrelevant in the bigger picture.

As TSC points out, basketball coaches have been doing this for years.

Akron's coach's old position would be closer to a AAU coach in basketball than Coach K's position.
