I’m skeptical that, say, Keylor Navas, Bryan Ruiz and Celso Borges are gonna care about sticking it to the US at the end of a long, miserable qualifying campaign and another pandemic year. If this were a regular hex year I’d be more inclined to agree. Could be wrong of course.

Considering going to El Salvador to cheer for Canada. Might get shot.

Mexico's keeper looked weak on both goals Great win but frick the top 4 are tight

Panama was supposed to be down this cycle too. It was part of the reason I was so high on El Salvador, they were ascending while all three of Panama, Honduras, and CR were getting very old in their golden generations.

Is there much of a benefit from topping the group rather than squeaking through in third with regards to our World Cup draw?

Possibly something about seeding if we maintain a certain FIFA ranking iirc

I think they do the 4 pots straight by FIFA ranking now (with the exception that Qatar goes in pot 1)?

Better to be in pot 2 than pot 3. I don't think we have much of a chance of ending up in pot 1 anyway unless Italy and Portugal both fail to qualify or something like that, but probably the value of being in pot 1 decreases a little bit since you have no chance of drawing Qatar.

top-3:
usa 93%
canada 91%
mexico 91%
panama 23%

live odds seem wonky considering how close it is + there are 6 games left, but panama's remaining schedule is pretty tough

usa: v el salvador, @ canada, v honduras, @ mexico, v panama, @ costa rica
canada: @ honduras, v usa, @ el salvador, @ costa rica, v jamaica, @ panama
mexico: @ jamaica, v costa rica, v panama, v usa, @ honduras, v el salvador
panama: @ costa rica, v jamaica, @ mexico, v honduras, @ usa, v canada

looking forward to it coming down to canada @ panama on the final match day... fml

Panama has to win at least one of those games @mexico or @usa, and their GD is the worst, so while it seems like they're only 2 pts behind it really is 3 vs everyone but Mexico.

Canada hasn't lost yet, they'd probably have to lose 3, including @Panama to have even a sweat.

Mexico is the team that should be worried. They lose or draw in Jamaica next matchday and it gets spicy.

If the Canada/US match is in Vancouver, how difficult will it be to get tickets? I fully expect the US to look feckless, but partying in Vancouver will at least be fun

sounding like canada's remaining 2 home games will be in toronto because of the schedule

window 1: @ honduras, v usa, @ el salvador
window 2: @ costa rica, v jamaica, @ panama

nothing confirmed yet, but there was a lot of talk last night about doing what's best for the team etc

I hate those odds - I would probably bet a lot of money on Panama to qualify if I could get 4-1

So do you trust the MLS guys to win v. ES and go all out @Canada?
Seems risky IMO. Not winning the El Salvador game would be really bad.

Giving away 3 pts to Canada (and Mexico) would be really bad too though

In the absence of a wink-wink-nudge-nudge arrangement, best to defect

I know Canada is the team du jour but those road games remaining are no joke. Much prefer to have the winnable home games against teams you can beat and tougher road games remaining than the other way around like Canada.

Top 3 are all near locks and USA does have an outside shot at pot 1 based on the rest of uefa

I mean, I guess it could happen?

Here are the current projected FIFA rankings, and each team's WC status:
https://football-ranking.com/fifa_rankings
  1. Belgium (BEL) 1,828.44 - Qualified (UEFA)
  2. Brazil (BRA) 1,826.36 - Will Qualify (CONMEBOL)
  3. France (FRA) 1,786.15 - Qualified (UEFA)
  4. England (ENG) 1,755.52 - Qualified (UEFA)
  5. Argentina (ARG) 1,750.51 - Will Qualify (CONMEBOL)
  6. Italy (ITA) 1,740.77 - Playoff (UEFA)
  7. Spain (ESP) 1,704.75 - Qualified (UEFA)
  8. Portugal (POR) 1,660.25 - Playoff (UEFA)
  9. Denmark (DEN) 1,654.54 -Qualified (UEFA)
  10. Netherlands (NED) 1,653.73 - Qualified (UEFA)
  11. Germany (GER) 1,648.33 - Qualified (UEFA)
  12. USA (USA) 1,647.14 - ???
  13. Switzerland (SUI) 1,642.83 - Qualified (UEFA)
  14. Mexico (MEX) 1,638.76 - ???
  15. Croatia (CRO) 1,620.74 - Qualified (UEFA)

Even if both Italy and Portugal miss out (Not likely), we still have to leap-frog two other EUFA teams, and stay ahead of the Swiss.

yeah, for sure
i guess the good news is we haven't lost yet, and already played @mexico & @usa, but we're certainly overdue for a stinker
(*sees the next match is @honduras and the flashbacks hit*)

then again, playing away arguably better for our attacking stars to counter, more room to operate etc, rather than trying to break down a bunkered opposition

I'm cool with Pot 2. How do you miss a World Cup in lol CONCACAF and stay in Pot 2 though? FIFA Rankings ftw

The only reason people are scared for USA/Canada is because of 2018 for the USA and uh, the last 35 years for Canada. Which, fair enough. But the bottom has fallen out for concacaf and conmebol

FIFA officially announces that the intercontinental playoffs for the 2022 World Cup will be single-leg matches at a neutral site next June.

Draw will be next Friday, to match up...

- CONCACAF 4th place
- CONMEBOL 5th place
- AFC 5th place
- OFC winner
they're also apparently bringing var in for the remaining games? wtf

love how fifa/concacaf repeatedly just change the rules and **** in the middle of things like this, what a corrupt ****ing clown show
