TV Draft Signup/Rules Thread TV Draft Signup/Rules Thread

I realize there are three drafts on the front page right now, but the modern era NBA is almost done, and the 2nd wrestling draft is done and I am on massive lifetilt from the Vikings crushing loss and bumping any vikings related thread off the front page, might put me out my misery for a little bit.

Here is my fundamental idea for the draft
You have 4 nights of prime time TV to fill (8-11) plus one hour of latenight TV and one hour of daytime TV.

You can draft any show that has ever been on TV, but you will be designing your programming for a 2010 audience.

Just like in other drafts you draft they player and not his career. I doubt My Three Sons would run for 500 episodes if it were released today, so if that is a major reason for selecting it you will have made a bad pick.

Every single show will be new to the audience and they will not carry any pedigree. All actors/actresses will carry the same level of fame as they did when they were on the show. Additionally Writer/actors/actresses will be omnipresent.

You can chose to have a cable network or a broadcast network, you will not get punished or rewarded for having one or the other, but you're picks should be consistent with your network's philosophy.

You can cross-shows ever, but they may not work, American Idol would be a huge failure on HBO and Deadwood would be a huge failure on CBS, but some crossovers can definitely work.

You can't draft late night franchises only hosts, but you can design programming around a host's strength.

The only show that you will be unable to draft is Saturday Night Live. They have had so many cast changes and a huge amount of their success comes from attracting star hosts and musical guests.

There will be 15 rounds and you will be able to fill programming with syndication. You are trying to build a network not one season's worth of programming, so longevity is important.

There will inevitably be spoilers in the thread so please try to post spoilers like so.

Dallas Season 2 spoilers
Spoiler:
I can't believe JR just got shot!

Also please post picks like this

Spoiler:
Pudge714 selects The Sopranos
Pretend there is a real write up here, but obviously I am not going to do a huge writeup as a sample

I think it's all for now, anyone interested in signing up or people who disagree with my rules can post itt.

Also I think we are going to cap the number of networks to 15-20.

Interesting stuff, I'll follow but I don't think I'd have much to contribute

is there a universal time slot we're drafting for?

e.g.

everyone drafts

mon - fri 8-11 ?

I think Mon-Thurs 8-11.
Late night 11-12 or 1130-1230 5 nights a week. I don't think it really matters. Unless people really want to know what times these hypothetical stations will be showing the local news.

Daytime hour I think i'll allow more flexibility and let people air it w/e they want.

In and possibly looking to co-own
01-25-2010 , 02:12 PM
ill be looking for a co-owner as well... though i'd like to be majority partner
01-25-2010 , 02:30 PM
I'm in for this
01-25-2010 , 02:46 PM
probably in to co-own
01-25-2010 , 02:49 PM
I'm in and id co-own
01-25-2010 , 02:58 PM
I just got a PM asking if stuff like Monday Night Football will be eligible. They will not be eligible.
01-25-2010 , 03:01 PM
id co-own, maybe

In.

If there's 15 slots, and 14 hours of programming to fill, obviously half-hour shows will leave blanks in the lineup. It's assumed those blanks will be filled in with stuff like news, syndicated shows, etc?
01-25-2010 , 03:09 PM
Zurvan,
Yes. If you want you can program your own syndication.
Eg. If you draft Seinfeld, we will show Seinfeld reruns in this slot.
If not it is just assumed that there will be replacement level syndication.

Edit: If others want to I might just get rid of the daytime hour all together.

I prefer no daytime, but I don't feel strongly about it

in and never so excited for a draft

Agree with all rules, would definitely do cable I think

LET'S START DRAFTIGNBBBGGGGGGGGGGGG

I'd take a co-owner if it's someone who is only marginally interested but have some good ideas and doesn't mind letting me have final say?

# of networks absolutely should not exceed 15 if we want any of them to be interesting whatsoever

Encourage co-ownership/participation ONLY from people who are huge huge TV viewers and will participate
01-25-2010 , 04:25 PM
I'm in, decent tv addict here.
01-25-2010 , 04:31 PM
Not sure I'd like to co-own but if someone wants to bounce ideas of me I'm all for helping out. Watch a fairly wide variety of shows and could offer some decent help.

I would be interested in that, just coming up with some ideas

In for sure, I'd be willing to accept a co-owner similar to C-vigs rec.

School is starting back up for me today so I'm not going to be online a ton, so I'm down for this.
