Camarillo's deepish reception excluded the Saint's corners pretty much shut down the outside receivers. Now whether that's because the Saint's genuinely have a solid secondary or Minni's receivers just are that bad remains to be seen but personally I think the Saints secondary was a larger factor.

Shiancoe is likely to have a huge year though.

he averages 1.5 clock mismanagements per game, he's just terribad. calling it w/ 2:05 essentially leaves you guessing whether they'll run a pass play on 1st down, negates a penalty or OOB play etc. no big deal if you do this once, but childress somehow does the -ev decision EVERY time at the end of a half.

anyway, gg saints they are what we thought they were, they prob shouldve won 24-9.

I would always prefer to wait till after the 2 minute warning, just in case what just happened happens.

Worst case scenario: You let it run down to 2 minutes, they get a first down immediately after the 2 minute warning. If you stop them 3 times, you will get the ball back with ~30 seconds left. Not much, but a chance at a miracle, at least.

Best case scenario: You stop them on 2nd and 3rd down, either getting the ball back with 0 timeouts and about 1:40 left or 1 timeout and about a minute left.

Good job of Scott van Pelt pushing Schlereth after Schlereth dodged questions asking if Favre's training camp absence and rust was a factor in the loss.

Go look at Favre's first 2 games last year. Skipping camp isn't conducive to a hot start.

Good night all around. Vikings start the season with a loss, and the guy I was playing against in my keeper league started Harvin and Hartley (3.5 points combined, lol).

True. Favre doesn't get to open up against cupcakes, like last year. I mean, Tjax could have probably won against the Lions and Browns.

Agree with this, but only because waiting until 2:05 could allow them to pass and still hit the 2 minute warning even on an incomplete pass. Taking the timeout before or after the 2:00 minute warning does not really make a difference, other than making the head coach look inept for taking 6 seconds to decide in a situation where he should either take it instantly at 2:11 or let the clock run completely down to 2:00. No in-between.

Assuming 2:11 on the clock (running) and 2 timeouts remaining, and a few seconds between plays. (please critique if I am wrong, assuming ~ 5 seconds per running play to keep it simple)

Option #1: Timeout before the 2 minute warning.
<Timeout>
Play #1 @ somewhere between 2:01-2:11
<2 minute warning>
Play #2 @ 2:00
<Timeout>
Play #3 @ 1:55ish? Can't stop the clock
Play #4 @ 1:05ish? Can't stop the clock
Play #5 @ 0:15-20ish? Can't stop the clock
<Game Over>
Result: 5 plays

Option #2: Timeout after the 2 minute warning.
<2 minute warning>
Play #1 @ 2:00
<Timeout>
Play #2 @ 1:55ish?
<Timeout>
Play #3 @ 1:50ish? can't stop the clock
Play #4 @ 1:00ish? can't stop the clock
Play #5 @ 0:10-15ish can't stop the clock
<Game Over>
Result: 5 plays

Obv plays #4-5 are kneel downs if they aren't force to punt, so there is plenty of breathing room there where they are not even forced to use the full 45 second play clock.

Greer/Porter are genuinely very good players. Well, Porter is good. Greer is great.

Last year the Saints went through a stretch of both of them injured. It wasn't pretty (except for the Patriots game).

So I was working on that pregame broadcast everyone (including me) hated, but by some awesome whatever I got whisked away from the actual concert 1 song into DMB and was told to go to the Superdome. Then they gave me credentials. Then I watched the entire pregame and first half on the ****ing field. It was awesome.

I'll have a TR complete with a bunch of far away cell phone pictures if people want.

Meh, not that worried about the Vikes... they opened up against the defending champs... when is the last time conference title teams played each other in the following season opener? I love the concept for excitement purposes, but it makes one of the season's potentially best matchups the least relevant games of their seasons. Who would have wanted to see Pats-Colts week 1 a few years ago?

Harvin messed up twice on huge plays.

Visante was good. The rest of the Viking receivers were horrible. No Rice is a huge problem.

Oh, for the two or three people who asked about wearing white at home...

A comprehensive history of NFL teams wearing white at home

Looks like the Saints did it for the first 3 games last year. It could be a heat thing (in the Superdome? idk).

I'm guessing:

1. It's a trend because of the early heat
2. Saints latch onto trend despite not caring about heat
