Texas as an independent, what do you think? Texas as an independent, what do you think?

It seems awfully silly to tie your fandom (non rational for the most part) to whatever school you attend (hopefully rational).

I grew up in Pullman, and was a fan of WSU sports basically since birth. To me, there is a HUGE difference between being a fan of WSU atheltics and WSU the school.

I went to UW because it's a better school, and I wanted to live in Seattle.

I can see how an LSU fan would make the choice to go to a fantastic school like Rice.

Rice and LSU are not arch rivals.

OK, I know multiple life long MSU and OSU fans that both chose to attend Michigan. It happens every year, and they often root against Michigan when playing their childhood loves. By Anacardo's definition, this is stupid, which I don't get.

we could play Lsu ARKY every year and just play the olde SWC shuducle til houston and rice is no longer good. scrap Baylor of course but i agree with others we wouldnt be allowed to stay in the Big XII in the other sports.

That's unfortunate that you had to go to your favorite school's rival... my buddy in high school grew up die-hard UCLA and then went to USC (he decided to switch allegiances)

It's easy for me... I grew up die-hard WVU and went to Cal, and since the teams basically never play each other (hell, the two CONFERENCES barely ever play each other), it's easy to root for both. Having nearly identical uniforms doesn't hurt either, makes the wardrobe easy.

Grad school is different obviously, but I am going to rock so much Cal **** when I go to Stanfurd that I'll probably make myself really unpopular. Is that what you did at UW, or did you play it neutral? I think I'm going to be 'that guy' that is really obnoxious about the rival school.

Because Anacardo thinks that college sports are ldo more important than a college education. (Full disclosure: I went to Vanderbilt, lifelong WVU fan).

I always like how Cal is the #1 public school year in and year out, but is ranked below the #20 private school. I'm pretty sure a Berkeley degree and education> NYU or whatever mediocre backup private school or bottom tier ivy league / top tier patriot league schools are always ranked ahead of them.

But yeah, I posted the Pac-10 academic rankings in the "SEC sucks" thread. Basically Pac 10 > Acc > Big-10 >>>>> everybody else
I disagree. Cal currently #21 in US News rankings (whatever that means). Schools just ahead of them: Emory, Notre Dame, and Vanderbilt tied for 18th, Rice at 17th. Schools just behind them: Carnegie Mellon at 22nd, Georgetown and UVa at 23rd, UCLA at 25th. NYU is not in the top 25.

I'm all in favor of going independent if you can schedule more games in places with restaurants that take reservations.

Oh, wait, dangeraw is a longhorns fan? This makes the BCS decision much more tolerable imo.

I grew up in Oklahoma, a fan for 12+years of my childhood. I went to Purdue. I'm a fan of both. I catch hell for it, but it seems logical to me.

LOL at all the meaningless academic talk. It has nothing to do with nothing and is 100% posturing and B.S. in my opinion.

Give them a break. They're a six-foot tall midget at least. Oklahoma's not a particularly good school, unless you like petroleum engineering.

That's what happens when those UT fans try and elevate their education to something it wasn't...

In which case, UT is way better anyways.

UT is dragged down by its natural sciences and liberal arts departments. The two schools that bring in the money (engineering and business) are both top 10.

Hmmm, might have nothing to do with football - but has something to do with something else imo.

But you need those to bring in the hot slooots for the engineers and business majors to want to go there.
