Just lost one break to lose that first set. Playing strong. We'll see if he can keep it up, though. Not sure.

Also, I would love to get to the Open next year. I'd save money and be sure to do it if I knew I had someone to go with. Unfortunately, none of my friends are that into tennis. The couple who are couldn't afford to do so in a million years.

It would have to be a ton of fun, I'd think. Well worth the trip. I need to get to work on saving and figuring out who I can drag along.

Then we can get to work and track down the ladies.
I have the same problem. I am the only one of my friends that watches tennis(and this has all started really in the past 2 years).

Ditto. I started right before "The Greatest Match Ever."

I am definitely glad to have these threads going on with all you guys. Other tennis forums are almost overwhelming. Maybe when I make it over next summer (hopefully), then I can meet up with whoever else is around.

Didn't some guy go to Wimbledon alone and end up meeting another 2p2er?

Holy **** Murray's returns have been incredible.

Yeah. I guess we sort of should have expected this. Murray's returns + guy coming into the net every time = lots of passes.

Hindsight.

i bought them in june when they went on sale to the general public. grounds passes sell out fairly quickly. pretty sure you can get them on stubhub/ebay for face value a few days before you want to go, though.

Murray looks primed to take down the US Open. He's got it all.

lol and no matter what the poor bastard does, until he wins at Wimbledon, he'll still be viewed as an underachiever by the British public/meedja.

Came into this thread to post thxbe2God for Clijsters beating Venus. That scream is unbearable.

To the more informed female tennis fans here, any chance Clijsters can make a legit comeback? I don't mean just making QF's at majors, I mean actually winning them? She looked damn good today imo.

lol here it goes again, people crowning Murray's ass because he just beat some scrub. It's the same thing at every slam tourney, it's getting kinda old. Murray will not win the US Open.

I wouldn't call myself well informed by any stretch but I don't see any reason why not. She has won majors in the past and the quality of womens tennis at the top of the rankings has actually gotten worse in her 2 year absence.

As far as this debate over men's vs women's tennis is concerned, I think a lot of the hate towards women's tennis is due to the seeming mental fragility of the women compared to the men. Except for the very top women players, most of them just fall apart the minute they face any adversity.

I only caught the tail end of the match tonight so i don't know exactly what led up to that point, but a seeded player crying in the middle in a professional match is simply unacceptable no matter what mental health issues she has had in the past.

i enjoy women's tennis and watch it quite often, but at the moment the quality of it is at the lowest point it has been at in my 25+ years of watching.

Another problem is that many of the top players come across as wannabe divas who think how they look on the court is as important as how they play.

Granted, wearing a "cocktail dress" to a tennis match is a great way to get endorsement deals as a result of the extra air tme you get from the media, but it comes at the price of not being taken seriously by casual tennis fans. I think a healthy Sharapova is a great tennis player who fights for every point, but during last years Open, every changeover was flooded with that damn ad of people taking pictures of her and her damn dog.

Oudin has been a great story this summer, and the Williams sisters are great even if they do get way too much tv time, but other than that there hasn't been too much worth watching this year.

Oh yeah and the porno-style grunting.

But why not just do it like this...

Top 2 players are 1 seeds
3-4 players are seeded '2'
5-8 players are seeded '3'
9-16 players are seeded '4'
17-32 players are seeded '5'

Chalked:
Round 3 would be 1's-4's vs 5's
Round 4 would be 1's-3's vs 4's
QF's would be 1's-2's vs 3's
SF would be 1's vs 2's
Fianl would be the 1's

Why distinguish between stuff like 27 and 28 if they are exactly the same. 1 and 2 seeds are equal as well. Its doofy

i recall a commentator (maybe mcenroe) call him out for not taking his training very seriously. iirc he basically called him an extremely talented player who likes to party. i also feel like there was some reference to him having played in some event or another hungover or maybe even slightly drugged

That "drinks a beer" line seems like it could fit a ton of guys, mostly because many seem to just be enjoying life (and why not?). I could see Tsonga doing this as well, for example.

As for Kim C, I'd say she definitely has a chance. Sort of. Really the only serious competition left is Serena Williams. Serena is just an absolute buzzsaw and I very much expect her to win this thing. If she doesn't win this thing, the only other person to win that wouldn't be a pretty sizeable upset is Kuznetsova (thanks to her Slam win earlier this year).

If Serena is out or Kim can somehow top her, I'd say she has a very very makeable chance at the title.

I've only been watching a couple years, so I can't speak to how bad women's tennis is right now. If this is at its worst, then I'm glad to hear that I have something to look forward to when it starts improving again as these younger girls get some experience.

Kim can definitely get back to the top considering how unreliable the top players are.
