Idk, it just seems like a cool way to go through life, always thinking you have a best friend up in the sky looking out for you. Combine that with the belief in heaven, and the belief you're going there, and you have a belief system that's gonna make life a lot more fun and magical. When you watch Tebow, you can tell, or at least I get the strong sense, that his religion
has made his life more fun and magical.
Now of course the big monkey wrench with being religious, is the belief in hell. To me, even a .01% chance of going to hell ruins all of the above. But there are many religious people who either don't believe in hell or have managed to convince themselves they are not going there. I suspect Tebow is convinced he's not going to hell, so the monkey wrench is nullified.
Basically, if I had to choose between being religious or being an atheist, I would snap call for atheism. But if you take away the hell part, then yea, I'd rather be religious than be an atheist. Tebow's enthusiasm for his religion, to me, can only add to his life. So naturally, I would like to have a belief system that adds to my life. But of course I can't just "choose" to believe in god any more than I can just "choose" to believe in ghosts. But either way, I think delusion in general gets a really bad rap on this site. Overall, I think delusion is a net-negative, but not all delusions are created equal. Some delusions can make life more fun (believing in heaven for example), and some delusions can severely hurt people's lives (For example: the belief that having sex outside of one's relationship makes them evil, sinful, bad, dirty, unfaithful, etc). Anyways, I guess what I'm saying is give me the right kind of delusions over reality any day of the week. But as said before, I can't just "choose" my delusions. But watching Tebow and his unbridled enthusiasm makes me wish I could.
