Idk, it just seems like a cool way to go through life, always thinking you have a best friend up in the sky looking out for you. Combine that with the belief in heaven, and the belief you're going there, and you have a belief system that's gonna make life a lot more fun and magical. When you watch Tebow, you can tell, or at least I get the strong sense, that his religion has made his life more fun and magical.

Now of course the big monkey wrench with being religious, is the belief in hell. To me, even a .01% chance of going to hell ruins all of the above. But there are many religious people who either don't believe in hell or have managed to convince themselves they are not going there. I suspect Tebow is convinced he's not going to hell, so the monkey wrench is nullified.

Basically, if I had to choose between being religious or being an atheist, I would snap call for atheism. But if you take away the hell part, then yea, I'd rather be religious than be an atheist. Tebow's enthusiasm for his religion, to me, can only add to his life. So naturally, I would like to have a belief system that adds to my life. But of course I can't just "choose" to believe in god any more than I can just "choose" to believe in ghosts. But either way, I think delusion in general gets a really bad rap on this site. Overall, I think delusion is a net-negative, but not all delusions are created equal. Some delusions can make life more fun (believing in heaven for example), and some delusions can severely hurt people's lives (For example: the belief that having sex outside of one's relationship makes them evil, sinful, bad, dirty, unfaithful, etc). Anyways, I guess what I'm saying is give me the right kind of delusions over reality any day of the week. But as said before, I can't just "choose" my delusions. But watching Tebow and his unbridled enthusiasm makes me wish I could.

my answer to this would be that it seems like tebow is an extremely driven and genuinely kind/positive person. obviously tebow is tebow and its not "God" (well or so we know) but a decent amount of his work ethic and character seems to derive from his faith.

Q: How often are you in a bad mood? If rarely, why aren’t you?

A: I get disappointed and frustrated with myself sometimes, but I try to get out of that mood as quick as possible because it’s never as bad as it seems and it’s never as good as it seems. One of my favorite quotes is, ‘I don’t know what my future holds but I know who holds my future.’ That is something that gives me comfort and gives me an understanding to just keep going and never let things get you too down.
Wow.. just wow, what a great quote.

A: Jennifer Aniston.

I wonder if Aniston is a Tebow fan

That's a reversible position centered on oneself. To the devout Christian it appears as though atheism could be a much easier life. After all wouldn't it be more fun to do what I want right now instead of having to worry about a real Law that governs life? And you get an instant upgrade in intelligence because you're have rational freethoughts while the theists are bound by irrational superstitions.

Now I suspect that actual aethism is not like that but it looks pretty from the outside.

Interesting. Thanks for the thoughtful reply.

And I think I can say with good confidence Tebow doesn't worry about going to hell. As a Christian, I believe hell exists too, but I don't particularly worry that I'm going there.

His faith... that is inevitably rooted in God :-).

This is not how spiritual Christians I know (or myself) see atheism. I feel anyone confident in his or her Christian beliefs should not look at non-belief and long for such things or feel barred by these constraints. Of course, the human mind inevitably doubts or fears, but, at least for me, none of these constitute a long-term variance from my direction.

And I think saying theists are bound by irrational superstitions is quite the leap, since it is the adherence to only the physical plane of existence that theists would argue binds non-theists. Plus, many great super-rational thinkers/philosophers have also been Christians and/or have accepted the possibility of a higher authority. Even many atheist evolutionary scientists admit the creation story is at least plausible, which is quite the concession.

I'll never understand the argument that Christians are entirely non-rational, since many logical, rational assessments of the plausibility of the existence of God exist and have been made by some revered philosophical minds. To dismiss the rationality of a God leaves lots of questions open for those unable to prove Darwinism or other evolutionary theories which some consider mathematical impossibilities (and for which no complete archaeological proof exists).

Sorry for the diversion. Back to your usual GOATEBOW discussion.

I have to wonder if the singing of Christian songs in that mic'd up special was because he knew he was mic'd, and he wanted them to air that as another way of "glorifying God" through football. Or does he really spontaneously burst into song like that, when picking up the dry cleaning, when clipping his toenails...?

Do people burst into Lady Gaga when doing daily life activities? Do entire defensive teams burst out into a Jim Jones anthem while warming up or after a sack?

I'm not sure what you're getting at. I thought that the first question meant that, yeah, people do randomly burst into song, and they sing songs that they like. But the second q?

And also, my question was asked in earnest. Not making fun of Tebow. Just wondering if he upped the Christianity stuff while he was mic'd, or if that's really a day in the life.

Ok, watching the mic'd up thing on NFLN, I think Tebow is just trolling everyone. He CAN'T be that nice. He just can't. He's going to turn heel any time now.

I most certainly would love to see Tebow vs Steelers and Tim giving Harrison the old "God bless you line" after shaking off a spearing tackle.

Speared? The parallels with Jesus never end.

In before his teammates betray him. And the palms laid at his feet by Broncos fans? They'll be demanding Brady Quinn in a few weeks.

Normal people don't listen to that and the athetards. But when we graft it onto something like football they're forced to hear about it.
