Did you..... did you go to the bathroom when Mahomes was chucking the ball at his receivers feet during the Super Bowl? Long bathroom break - some bad chili?

The point is PM kept a lot of plays alive that Brady could never have done under similar conditions.

I mean, Brady wouldn't have had to. He would have pulled in a 6th blocker, and checked into some shorter routes. Doing a dumb thing over and over again isn't a good look for a QB guys.

Take a look at this play again fellas. Mahomes had an easy first down if he took the simple play. Bucs are showing blitz, he knows Williams is going to chip and then escape. The rest of the Chiefs are running long routes past the 1st Down line. The obvious play is to toss to Williams. Instead....

It's fun to mock Brady and Brees when they check down, but they do that because often it is the very best play to make! If Mahomes took the simple play instead of trying to heroball it off his back foot, he gets a first down and still has a chance to win. Instead it's the first of his two interceptions.

3 Field Goals! Even when he spent a quarter of the game going against a prevent defense.

The Chiefs first drive was awful for Mahomes. 1st and 10 near midfield, he's got both the TE and RB blocking, they leak out. Mahomes is looking downfield the entire time against a coverage that is obviously going to give him nothing, and he ends up scrambling for two yards. Checking it to the TE or RB would have been a big play.

Then after a bad pass to Mecole Hardman, he's got a 3rd and 8. Same clip as basically above - TB is showing blitz and sends 5. RB Williams doesn't even chip, just leaks out, and the line does fine with 5 rushers. Instead of just tossing it to Williams (he had a chance to pick up a first), Mahomes throws an inaccurate deep ball to Hardman again.

If Mahomes plays only slightly better, they score on that drive - at least getting him to four field goals for the day. It wasn't on the Oline or Receivers.

Don't feel like criticizing Mahomes too much but we just pointed out Pats/Broncos 2015 AFCCG when he got hit 20 times, the most in the NFL that year and if not for Gost missing his first XP in 523 tries, they probably go to OT @ Mile High against 1 of the best D's of all time.

The idea prime Brady (I would agree his modern self is basically Nick Mullens vs pressure so it would be tougher sledding) is just looking at a shutout and can't do **** about it if he has Mahomes OL is a big reach.

There is the condensed game if any Brady haters are tired of seeing him come up roses.

Mahomes is awesome, we all know it, he just had a bad game. He'll figure it out, his quotes after the game show that he knows he needs to improve at the QB stuff, not just being a thrower, echoes exactly what I've said in this threat:

Quote:
"There were some plays where I got the line going in the wrong direction. A lot of times it gets put on that o-line because I'm scrambling around, but if we're not executing as far as me making the right reads and getting the ball out of my hand to the receivers on time, then nothing's going to work. So they get that blame sometimes, but it's not deserved because, I mean, a lot of it's on me and people just don't see it that way.”
Good for him, he's a smart dude. He'll get it. And extra kudos for not doing the Manning thing and just blaming his o-line.

Guess you need a play by play tally to determine missed chances by PM and line not being able to execute.

It's not like KC hasn't seen pressure before, just not at this level. And Reid has a pretty innovative offense that has kept defenses guessing for the past 3 years, so either called a bad game or TB was just wrecking what they were trying to do.

No need for a play by play tally, we'll just take it from Mahomes, he agrees with me that he wasn't good.

It's really just the casual fans that think it's all on the o-line. Me and Mahomes know the deal. I'm confident he'll improve.

yep, seems like if they can just grasp the concept of check downs, they should go back to being unstoppable.

Not just check downs my man, I wrote about keeping in extra blockers, getting the ball out quicker, etc, Patrick himself made a few savvy points on things he needs to work on. He and I know there's more to being a QB than just running around and throwing incompletions - doing that might limit a QB to, say, 9 points in a Super Bowl. He's a sharp kid, he'll get back there soon. I bet he'll play much better next time.

maybe just maybe the gameplan sucked because the coach was busy getting his son out of jail after killing a kid or whatever

otherwise he could have been helping out his young qb

Gameplan would have been in before the accident. Teams aren't making major changes on Friday and Saturday on a 2 week schedule.

Once it's in, it's up to in-game adjustments from the coaching staff and on field adjustments from the QB. I don't think either group delivered. That'll often lead to 9 point performances, you just hate to see it.

What I find interesting is the pattern KC fell into around mid season by not dominating teams, but simply prevailing. They did dominate BUF which IMO gave a lot of people (including me) the idea that Mahomes et al could turn on the switch and revert to their dominating form.

I also find it interesting that in 5 of Mahome's first 6 playoff games KC was down 9+ points. And the game in which KC was ahead (CLE) turned out competitive, albeit KC had a sizeable lead early with Mahomes on the field and CLE blew a 1H scoring chance. To win 4 of those 5 games is either remarkable, or some run good.

Also not sure why PM went away from rushing. He gained 24 yards in the first 8 minutes of the game, then basically passing exclusively after that. His career average is only 17/game, so it seems KC lost an opportunity there as TB D was vulnerable to that exploit. I'm guessing that would be a difficult adjustment for TB, and whatever adjustment they would make could probably be exploited further.

Maybe it was his toe injury, play calls from the coaches, etc.

First, I forgot about that 4th down pass to Gronk, man was that amazing. Also, Brady had Gronk on that 2pt conversion too, just missed him.

I want to go back and watch the Pats offensive snaps to see how much pressure they were getting on him. That condensed game didn't show a lot of pressure but I remember Brady getting beat down that game.

Yeah, it wasn't the best video since it mostly showed sacks/completions. Skips from 10 min mark of 4th to 2 min mark.
