Yeah, bud, hate to break it to you but no one gives a **** about your weak-ass justifications for beating up women, and they didn't when the last knuckle-dragger sputtered them out, either.

Good to know that you think we're all so dumb that we'll buy some rationalization about income as your cover for the fact that you're pretty sure you'll have to hit a woman at some point, if you haven't already, and that you are already trying to justify it in advance.

It's simply: she's a human being, with her own agency, and everyone shouting her down without actually close knowledge of her situation, and treating her like a child, aren't doing her any favors. Maybe it was a one time thing, maybe she's perfectly happy and in love with Ray, and everyone who's like "oh that poor battered woman she doesn't even know how miserable she is!" can ead. It doesn't mean we don't take her thoughts on Ray with a grain of salt.. just simply that people should try to know what they don't know.

And in a broader sense, the "abused" aren't without agency, they aren't invalids or incapable of rational thought. Their rationality is just based on a different framework. Obv if criminal behavior is going on, then forceful intervention is required. Outside of that, don't treat people who have been subject so some abuse as children.

It is fascinating that TMZ has emerged as the premier muckraker in uncovering sports scandals and cover-ups. Does it speak to the lack of investigative reporting skills among regular sports journalists?

Big media has a lot to lose when giant brands like the NFL are damaged. Of course that means they have no shame and will bury stories (for the most part - unless it's Kobe rape then RATINGS BABY!!!) But nobody cares about Ray Rice so of course all the networks that air football want to pretend there is nothing to see here. Zero dignity.

Yes, yes it does.

Combine that with TMZ being damn good at what they do though.

Well think about someone like Peter King. He basically has free reign through all the training camps and practices in the NFL. He probably has 10-20 connections on each team. Why? Because people in the NFL trust him. But it took decades for King to earn that trust. The guys with the most access are the ones that don't say anything when **** goes down. On the other hand, you can't have a job if you don't have access. So if you want a cushy job covering the NFL, (or anything big for that matter) you have to kiss ass and ignore all the bad **** happening.

King used to cover the Giants back in the 80's. I'm sure he saw tons of **** going on w/ LT and cocaine. Maybe not saw it, but heard stories. But if he had reported it, the Giants wouldn't have trusted him, he wouldn't have gotten any "inside scoops", no one would have read his articles because he wouldn't have anything to say, and he'd be working covering HS sports right now. Instead, he kept his mouth shut, earned trust over the years, and now probably makes a few million a year to travel on the NFL's dime more or less.

The journalists at TMZ on the other hand are actually paid to go out and find dirt. So they don't give a **** about hurting feelings or whatever because they have the support of TMZ.

If he doesn't have a job w/ the NFL, why would a company like Nike keep him?

Rice is going to appeal his indefinite suspension Monday. I'm glad he is, because I think that if he pursues that process aggressively we are more likely to get to the truth about what Goodell knew and saw when he passed the initial suspension.

(I mean, I think he should be fired anyway, and that Mr. "Ignorance Is No Excuse" does not deserve any benefit of the doubt, but so much the better if more fact-finding exposes him even further as a liar and prevaricator.)

Nath,

Serious question. At this point would you prefer which situation:

a) Rice suspension lifted and ROG fired d/t coverup

b) ROG cleared of any wrongdoing, Rice stays suspended
Sugar Ray Rice suspended by TMZ, ROG fired by the AP? Quote

First impression, I'd say A, because Goodell generally is doing and has done much more harm to my love of NFL than Rice is/has, and because I also believe it's highly unlikely any team signs a 27-year-old RB with 2500 carries since 2005 given the PR ****storm that would descend upon them. I mean, Rice's suspension getting lifted doesn't make that video go away.

Definitely A. People won't fall over RR in an attempt to sign him at least not this season.
Sugar Ray Rice suspended by TMZ, ROG fired by the AP? Quote

A, easily.

Rice is done. No team will dare sign him. Being an old RB makes it easy for them to pass on him too.

So you guys like the under on 50 more career carries? Or just done as in a relevant back?

He's relatively old but he's not your standard power back. With the NFL moving towards motion offenses I think Rice could play into his mid 30s and the stink of this will wash off with every new scandal. Mcdonald and Hardy cases finally being adjudicated by the NFL can do nothing but help him. I know dude sucked balls last year but it was his first and given a chance in a year i think he easily makes a team and has a good chance to contribute. And I think he ends up being signable a decent pct of the time.
