Ref: Louisville has deferred to the second half, Florida do you want the ball?

Florida: no.

What happens?

In college, you aren't deferring possession, rather, you are deferring the choice of whether to kick or receive so you get to choose to start 2nd half whether you want to kick or receive then. So the team that loses the CF, and has been deferred to will auto elect to receive that way they won't kickoff both halves.
