Simmons is pulled in so many directions compared to when he was the Boston Sports Guy. He was basically a post college writer trying to get his name out there. On the side, he was trying to get laid. That was about it. Now? He's married, has 2 kids, works on TV, is a director, a C list celebrity, has season tickets to the Clippers and Kings, travels all over the country due to work, etc. With all the stuff he's doing, writing went from being a #1 priority to like a #15 priority. He used to have marathon chats on ESPN.com that would last 4 or 5 hours. When was his last ESPN chat? It's been years. Yea, his writing has slacked off. But it's not because he's lazy. It's because he so busy compared to how he used to be.
I'm not sure what you guys are expecting from Simmons. He's still readable and entertaining, moreso than Zach embed-20-youtubes-per-article Lowe. The minutiae of NBA games and sports in general just isn't that deep or interesting.
Seriously, the revolution going on in basketball involves realizing 3 points is worth more than 2. Congrats analytics experts, you're as smart as a third grader.
Sports analytics are a joke so let's stop pretending that we are so smart for understanding them.
Simmons hate can get overboard (he's not lazy, the guy does a million things) in here sometimes, but saying his articles are "readable" isn't exactly a great endorsement.
Zach Lowe articles are almost entirely excellent and interesting. I guess they aren't entertaining if you want pop culture references or WHO SAYS NO impossible trades injected into every paragraph.
Some people do think the little things in sports are interesting. You're obviously not one of those people if you think analytics are 3>2. Analytics are just more stats and information brought on by the combo of money, technology and smart people. It's cool to be able to measure the impact of things that we previously couldn't.
Yeah really like the Collins podcast and big fan of his now. Pure class. 2008 Olympic team including him gave me some national pride.
Only passively knew of the 72 plympic final but watched it today. JFC what a ****show. Sinking those freethrows after being KOed so amazingly clutch. Being robbed of that hero moment would prob crush a lot of people but he seemed to take it in stride.
@BillSimmons
My 1 prediction: down road, LBJ/CP/KD/other future FA's will seriously investigate economics of launching own league. As negotiating tactic.
Does anybody else find it really weird that Rich Eisen just completely copied the Dan Patrick Show. It's basically the exact same show except 20x worse... Same format, same hours, same studio...
Hate when guys take their podcast formats and change them to be more like radio. Carolla and Eisen come to mind. It's like the opposite of progress, man.
The overall article was ok, but I thought his "question" was almost completely unintelligible:
Spoiler:
Mr. President, so since you were — since I was in college, which is when you were elected, I’ve watched everything you’ve had to go through — jumping through hoops, going over hurdles, everything. And there’s been a common notion amongst my peers — peers who were very interested in getting into politics, being politicians, even that — this idea of if Barack Obama can’t say or do what we think he wants to say or do as President, then could any of us ever do that if we get into politics, be it about Ferguson, about gay rights — any of these things where we feel we know what he wants to say, but he can’t really do it at that moment.
Is that a sentiment that you are commonly aware of? And does it at all inform kind of how you want to wrap up your presidency? And I guess if you were trying to advise someone in this climate that wanted to make some change or have an immediate impact, would you advise them into getting into politics?

Reason: Put it in spoiler, not sure why.
Rembert isn't good by any means. But he is speaking for a voice of America that gets little to no say in the mainstream media. He's the flippant, social issue casualfan.
Also I think he's improved dramatically. At first he was Bill's Black Friend. Now he has at least developed a voice.
