Little bit perturbed that my benign trolling of Troallstoy caused me to "start" a thread that's a near-lock to be the worst of the year.

I found a new level of annoying on Facebook

There's obviously a lot of activity and comments about GoT last night as some wild **** went down, but there's also a lot of obnoxious responses from book readers going on.

"Just wait, this isn't even the craziest thing that happens"
"It was done so much better in the book"
"I couldn't believe it when I read that a few years ago"

We get it, you read a goddamn book, no one gives a ****

Either this or just de-friend these clowns.

But, more importantly, why are they friended in the first place? Unless your gf/wife, bf/husband is forcing you to add them? I don't get why people complain about facebook clowns. Don't friend them in the first place.

How else are you supposed to preen and status whore if you can't talk about all the books you've read that other people haven't

I feel like bragging about having read fantasy novels is a very, very thin literacy brag.

Right, which is why you follow up with "If it weren't for Infinite Jest, A Song of Ice and Fire* would be my favorite work of literature."

*Note that using the correct name of the series is critical, as it indicates you read the books before the TV show came out

i dont understand why that is allowed to go on. it is impossible not to spoil something that you already know when discussing it so much. people think differently about every post knowing that you know what really happens

Don't watch GoT, but 100% agree on principle. People have this same "accidental spoiler" problem w/recorded sporting events. It's nearly impossible to avoid subconsciously giving certain things away. Have to preemptively tell people to just not say anything at all about it.

yean im pretty sure i got spoiled also. on vacation so we dont have HBO so couldnt watch yet. didnt expect 80% of my facebook friends to have GoT statuses up (just as of last sunday i caught up on the series myself and had never been spoiled)

this status is the worst one. it includes a spoiler so dont read it if you dont want to get spoiled:
Spoiler:
The weather today sucks! ugh I hate rain. But at least I'm not Arya Stark!"

i mean gfy what is that

Agree.

Best part is book vets like championing their ability to not spoiler people in the thread. Even has a gob.bo.mo.m appearance to reinforce the greatness of such people (her son I guess).

"We've all waiting three years for you to watch this episode. It delivered a+" is such a weirdo thing.

Really though I can't imagine any good reason to read/participate in that thread. Seems like you're risking a ****ton of downside for the pleasure of interacting with luminaries like [Ph.ill]

It's very bizarre. Last night was the first time I ever checked that thread. It was sorta like, "huh?"

They seem to be awful back patty about policing the thread and getting actual spoilers deleted asap. That's admirable. Just seems like a weird way to spend time.

And lol rat. Social media newb.
