I've got a wedding next weekend. Usually been 2-3 a year for the past few years. They are way better (and cheaper) when you aren't in them.

Biggest downside besides the $ is I basically can feel the death eyes from my longtime gf during the ceremonies. Then have to go through 300 "so when are you guys getting married?!?! convos.

Wedding bar situation needs federal regulation or something. Basically spend the whole build up to the wedding hoping its a good bar.

Few years back college buddy is getting married in Maine. They lived 12 hours away but his wife grew up there so ldo wedding in Maine. Real nice and all until it turns out there is open beer (1keg) and wine for the cocktail hour, and then cash bar for the reception. I still haven't gotten over it.

I mean your going to have people on your side from nj/pa/DVD drive 10-12 hours, two nights hotel, etc, a cash bar is absurd. Plus had no idea.

Buying a round of beers is a tricky proposition.

I will never order BL/ML/CL for my own choosing. However, it is easy and non-offensive to most people, so it just makes it easy to order a round of those. There isn't really an upscale beer that is universally non-hated, so I'd rather just play it safe and order ****ty beer. Especially because when someone else orders a round that's probably all I'll get back in return.

Nothing more tilting than someone buying a round of drinks without asking what you want.

Re: Weddings

Family friends weddings are ****. People I haven't seen in 10-20 years, and will probably make no effort to see me again, asking the same generic questions. or "Oh wow, I remember when you were like this big" x 100

I somehow got put in charge of buying the alcohol for my sisters wedding in a couple months. It's definitely a budget wedding with probably around 70-80 people. What should I get and how much of it? Most of the adults aren't very big drinkers but the friends are.

i normally just take a few sips politely and then leave it somewhere, but i think i'm going to start REJECTING bud lights that are purchased for me.

btw the domestic beer bar is totally standard for a wedding. Wedding isnt the place to impress guests with your love of Imperial IPAs.

Wedding is way more of a liquor ocassion anyway imo

"I only drink Michelob ULTRA bro!" He proclaimed from beneath his baby gap tee and sunglasses, the 6'0" 200 pound club goer visibly shaken as he drops his bud light in disgust.

Weddings are the times your friends and family go full douchebag and hammer the marriage question home right in front of the girlfriend instead of in private

Yeah it's pretty brutal. Basically a 6 hour troll session. Worst part is she is standing there so you can't say something funny or just loudly laugh like you would in private.

Agree with cvig on beer. There should be a non terrible non light beer option but weddings really aren't the place to get your IPA on.

Bottom shelf everything kind of sucks too. Like I'm talking college bottom shelf.

Why do people skimp on the open bar? I mean maybe I'm an idiot but dinner seems like a terrible rip off in most cases. Go buffet style or even just do a badass H'orderves wedding.

Best wedding I've been too had insane food during the cocktail hour i was beyond stuffed. Don't even remember if I finished the prime rib or whatever.

Other tips

Obv dont plan your wedding around a major holiday weekend. People like to take vacations then

If you went to a big football school dont plan wedfing on day of a home game or championship game

Wedding ceremony at 6, 20 minutes tops. Reception immediately after. Dinner by 7:30-8

Have post-reception suggestions so people end up in same places and party continues

Also, JFC shoot yourself in the head if you insist on doing pictures after the ceremony but before the reception and don't open the bar for everyone during that time period.

Never been to a wedding that took place same as reception but those have to be the best weddings.

Drive 30 minutes from church to reception with hour to kill is way too common

haha i went to a wedding in atlanta during the sec championship, this seemed like a gigantic oversight - this wedding was also the same place as the reception (it was a church that had a microbrewery + reception area + bar, lol the south?)

yeah i'd never heard of a dry wedding either but there i was - dunno if the bride's parents were ultra-religious or maybe she was a recovering alcoholic or something - never got the full story on that one.
