Dishwashing can be a pain, but not a big deal. Although I've never heard of non-ghetto places not having them.

No dryer/washing machine is a huge pain though, even if it's just walking down to some apartment laundry unit in the building. Even more than the hassle to lug it down there, it's the time restriction involved.

Way more convenient to have your own and just throw loads in, start them, and then not worry about them until you're ready. But in a shared facility, you have to watch the time, and can't go out anywhere (unless you want people to take your clothes out and think that you're an *******), feels like a total burden.

Laundry can legit take half a day, which really sucks. And going to a laundromat would be way worse, seems awful.

Dishwashing by yourself isn't a big deal, god forbid you live with messy people without one though

laundry takes like 30 minutes to wash and 45 to dry. you dont spend two consecutive hours in your apartment once every two weeks or so?

lol at half a day

Larry, exactly.

Dkgo, there's not always enough washers/dryers free for multiple loads. Laundry takes way more than 2 hrs, unless you only have 1 load of laundry after two weeks, which doesn't sound very cleanly.

I hate doing laundry. After 2-3 weeks, I have 3-4 loads. Bringing it down, separating it, loading it, 35 min wash, 45 min dry is at least an hour and a half per load. And that's not even counting the extra time that always happens due to waiting for washers/dryers to free up, small talk with other people there, etc. If I can do all my loads reasonably closely together, that's about 3 hrs. If it's only 1 free at a time, it can take up to 6 hrs, so yes, half a day.

And this is for a complex with 8 washers and 10 dryers. Weekdays daytime would be no problem, but I work. Lolwashing clothes before or after work, and on the weekends it's always jam packed.

seems like a no brainer to live in a place with a washer and dryer in unit. I'd also aim for a dishwasher, but if you don't cook much/any then I can see that being ok.

The bottom line is that Lifelock is not a scam, it’s just that you can do a lot of what they do for free. Lifelock might be worth it if you have the attitude “well, I could do this stuff for free, but I don’t want the hassle, and I’ll probably forget, so I’ll just let someone else handle it for a small price”.
Every day, many of us pay others to do things we can do for free. Every month I pay a lovely Latina lady to clean my place. I pay a carwash to wash my car and someone to do my taxes. It's a service, if you don't see the value then don't buy it.

in unit washer and dryer for laundry is overrated imo, so long as they're something in the basement. Since 'work' is poker for me, I roll up in the laundry room at 10am when it's completely empty and get 4 loads done in <1.5 hours.

I lived in a series of apartment complexes in the 90s in the Phoenix/Scottsdale area. All of them had dishwashers but only about half iirc had a washer/dryer. Ugh, it would suck to go back to having to lug my goddamn laundry out to a common laundry area and shuttle back and forth to deal with it.

It's one of those things like power locks and power windows on cars that you take for granted until one day you don't have them and then realize how awesome they are.

I go literally months without running my dishwasher. Eat out 100% of the time and use disposable plates and silverware by choice. Prefer styrofoam though, environment be damned. I've found it to be a much easier existence just throwing dirty plates away than having to deal with the cleanup, and they cost like 2 cents/each at Costco.

No doubt this will be considered weird but whatever, it's simple.

Not having a dryer in unit would really cramp my style of using it to iron in the morning.

I can see where the no dishwasher posters are coming from. I don't use mine that much because manually cleaning up after a meal makes a lot more sense than letting the dishes build up to the point where you need to use the dishwasher. However, for a hungover weekend where you create a lot of dirty dishes from Thurs-Sun it is awesome.

If you live with a girl and have an in unit washer/dryer your laundry gets done for you.

Yesterday I drank:

96 oz. water
48 oz. beer
24 oz. coffee

and I woke up feeling great today. I might have stumbled upon the perfect fluid ratio for me. I'm gonna shoot for the same today.
