Pretty sure my main source for that was a Slate expose from early this year slamming Dr. Oz for bad suplement advice on his show--when I saw 'Fish Oil' on the list I assumed he was telling people to avoid it...but nah. If you are after brain health benefits like my wife recovering from brain surgery/stroke, then I'm pretty sure a near unanimous consensus would be to take it and risk a year of stomach upset. All of our doctors thought it was a great idea in her case to take a high quality one, in fact her primary decided to move up her schedule for coming off coumadin so she could start taking it. So there's sort of a situational element to it, I guess.
I don't see any of that as conflicting with what Chim wrote earlier, btw. That's one of the reasons I'd wanted to start eating more beef.
Sorry I'm on my phone and don't have the slate article link. I haven't really looked that much further into fish oils since it was the one thing that seemed like a slam dunk for us.
Chim; Is it just the flax oils that are useless, or the ground seeds as well? Any considerations on the context of ingesting the flax oil, like mixed in a smoothie vs. straight spoonful vs. a pill? Thanks.
