Like they'll be watching t.v. and someone tries to speak to them and they don't hear it until someone has said their name 10 times. Or they'll cook something and leave the oven on and the fridge open and no matter how many times you call them out they just can't help it.
Not the TV thing but this is how things are for me.
In school I was smart enough to get by but procrastinating, lack of focus, lack of follow through and laziness if you care to call it definitely kept me from reaching close to my full potential. Grad school was where it became more of a problem, probably due to lack of structure, and so I have a Master's and not a Ph.D.
Other than the tardiness that started this topic, here are a few other day-to-day things:
- I lose my car keys more than anyone I know. They're usually in my last pair of shorts or coat but sometimes I set them in weird places without thinking, like on top of the fridge.
- If I get a glass out of the cupboard I'm a coin flip to close it. This used to drive my wife nuts, and probably still does. We greatly improved things by writing "CLOSE ME" on the inside of them. It feels pretty ****ing embarrassing to require such measures for a task so simple, but it was effective.
- I often fail to plan ahead with clothing. So say we're going to a barbecue that will go into the evening. If it's warm when I leave I'll forget to bring a sweatshirt unless someone reminds me.
- I have broken the battery cover on several remotes. When watching TV, without realizing it, I'll open and close the battery compartment over and over. I don't have the hyperactive symptoms all that bad, I definitely don't feel driven by a motor or always on the go, but I fidget and mess with stuff like that all the time.
