Lol listening to a whole album when you can pick the best songs from different albums. That would be like USA basketball just sending the heat to the Olympics.

There was a time not too long ago where it was a bit cumbersome to do this. Also, lots of great albums that enhance the "best songs" when they are listened to in context with the entire album.

My all-time list would be wonky; I've been listening to albums for only about the past eight years, and my taste over half of that span is pretty alien in comparison to what it is now.

How about y'all's 2012-now lists (listened to, not released)?

Mine in no particular order:

Colbie Caillat — Breakthrough
Mogwai — The Hawk Is Howling
Boy — Mutual Friends
Los Campesinos! — either Hello Sadness or Hold on Now, Youngster... (not sure)
Halou's eponymous album
Bon Iver — For Emma, Forever Ago
The Weepies — Hideaway
Broken Social Scene — You Forgot it in People
A Perfect Circle — Thirteenth Step
Paper Aeroplanes — The Day We Ran Into the Sea

I might be omitting one or two and falling prey to recency bias. I limited it to one Colbie album.

You guys realize some artists create albums intended as complete works, right? I mean, I know albums come from the days when musicians had to hand-press their own records after waiting painstaking months to grow and harvest the vinyl tree crop, but it does and did happen.

also, tdomeski's dad definitely wins Father of the Year

I'm probably a bad person for this but I literally laughed out loud when I saw this headline:

Dad worked in radio so he was really into exposing me to music early and often.

If any of you still listen to Howard Stern show he gave my dad a pretty sweet ~5 minute shout out last week.

+1 to Jar of Flies

Dirt is also awesome. Nothing to lighten the mood like listening to an album where every song is about heroin and 2 of the 4 people on the album died of a drug overdose

Oh I forgot about Odelay but it would be up there for me. Definitely top 20. That album had great bass. I had a couple 12" woofers in the back of my 1992 Ford Tempo that I used to blare. Licensed to Ill sounded great with that system and Odelay had a few songs that sounded awesome, too. Still got the speakers and amp but they're up in my attic now.
