As Chelsea have a David Luiz sized hole next to Nemanja Matic, many fans' assume he's being looked at to play in that role. I can't imagine that's a particularly good idea, but as I haven't watched as much Barcelona as some, I reached out to Arron Duckling of Barca Blaugranes. Arron was kind enough to respond with the following:
........

Quote:
Can Cesc Fabregas play in Chelsea's double-pivot? It's a question that many Chelsea fans may be asking themselves in the light of recent developments, while Manchester City fans might just be asking themselves the very same thing. Let me save you all some time and answer that conundrum for you: "No". And before you ask, there are no "ifs" and there are no "buts"; he simply cannot do it. Of course, there are no doubts that Fabregas has been blessed with an abundance of natural talent and God-given technique, but his skill set just doesn't apply to a deep lying position, particularly at an elite level."
Quote:
"It's been crushingly obvious for quite some time now; Fabregas drifted back into the double-pivot on occasion at Arsenal and on one memorable night, the "Barca DNA" coursing through his veins proved fatal. That tendency to over-elaborate, that primal desire to play the extra pass led to a mistake and a Barcelona goal. But that's not all holding Fabregas back from a successful career in a pivot -- a noticeable lack of athleticism, a mediocre work-rate, maybe even his height -- Cesc just lacks too many vital attributes."

"Perhaps there's the right partner out there for him -- the Xavi to his Iniesta if you will -- but Chelsea, and any other interested party would be wise to scour the market; at that price, in this position, there are simply better alternatives available."

that's so stupid. of course he can. why are you quoting these idiots?

It may not be his best position. But it's the position he is most needed for.
Hypothetically if he was to come I see no reason why he couldn't play there.
Matic enables the guy next to him to have more freedom and we wouldn't be buying him for anywhere else. We have been in need of a dlp for a while and he ticks most of the boxes.

comment from the same author:

Why the hell would he want Cesc Fabregas for that role?
Cesc doesn’t win balls and move them up field quickly, if anything, he’s come under fire for the past three seasons for dallying on the ball and dribbling away from goal far too often. He’s not the sort of ‘deep lying playmaker’ that a low-block, non-possession based team would use to start counters quickly. He’s always played in slow building, possession based systems in which his primary defensive responsibilities were in the other teams half of the pitch.

Cesc Fabregas is not a pivot player in Chelsea’s system. He’s never played in a role similar to that, and nothing he’s shown in his career suggests he’d be anything but terrible at it.
that's so ****ing stupid. did he just not watch the early years at arsenal at all?

spanish press from this morning denies that, Florentino's galactico of choice would be Suarez, Ancelotti wants him, but wants to keep Benz9 too. Hmm... this is going to be one long summer again I guess, but we all know what happens in the end.

The only thing against Sandro being the best DCM in the world is that he is injury prone (76 appearances in 4 seasons)

If Lülz is worth €50m, then Sandro is worth €75m
Sandro is somewhat frustrating as 3-4 seasons ago, particularly in his European appearances, he looked like he would go right to the top of the game as a CDM - it was no coincidence that Spurs CL run of 2-3 seasons ago when we were miles ahead in third fell apart when Sandro got injured.

That said, injury or otherwise, he has gone backwards. Whether he needs a move or just a decent coach who knows, but he certainly hasn't fulfilled his potential.

Evidently a Barca fan who never watches them play. I dislike Busquets because he's a face stomping theatrical flopping bitch who plays for Barca, but he's key for both Barca and Spain and everything falls apart whens he's not on the field.

Atletico close to signing Siqueira, presumably their replacement for Luis.

Also signed Moya from Getafe, possibly meaning Courtois won't be returning.

Looks like chelsea want to pay Filipe's 24M€ release clause.

Moya comes to be the second goalkeeper (Aranzubia is leaving, he had a 1 year contract). Apparently we made a 5M offer trying to get Geronimo Rulli (never seen him)
