This guy I almost picked last round but came to my senses.

He has been the worst good player in the world for I don't even know how long.

No one and I mean no one wants to score as bad as he does.

Off the field that could means this:

or maybe this. Another ex:

On the field it means celebrating a fifth goal so ridiculously wild the opposition players end up chasing him around.

Quote:
And it doesn't matter if the game doesn't matter. A few years ago, he scored a meaningless fifth in a league game against Torino. He went crazy, screaming wildly, as if he'd netted the title decider. Torino's players were furious. They even tried to attack him. Later, he apologised, explaining that every goal was "like a mystical experience
Yes it's none other than Super Pippo Filippo Inzaghi!

Inzaghi is (maybe was) the biggest diver I can think of
08-27-2009 , 05:36 PM
SUPER PIPPO (arguably sickest goal by him at 1:20)

Hadn't heard that Torino story before, but I think it's ****ing awesome how he cheers like he just scored the winner in a world cup final, after every rebound goal 1 yard from goal.

So far no luck with Amelia and Diego Lopez. Search goes on.
I can think of 50 off the top of my head.

But seriously, I feel like there should be plenty of great choices even though none immediately come to mind.

That reminds me that andre and I need to start thinking about our picks. It would have been no problem, but since we picked last it's been a non-stop flow of people picking guys that Andre has told me he wants to take this round. The Sevilla roster is pretty thin at this point as well so I'm out of ideas myself unless I want to pull a kitaristi0.

And WTF at Jose Antonio Reyes and Julio Baptista getting picked a few rounds ago?!?! I thought those would be my homer ex-Sevillista (but Sevillista hasta la muerte LDO) last-round picks but apparently they've been doing better and/or getting more recognition than I thought.

I ****ing cried when Jose Antonio was sold to Arsenal. Sevilla desperately needed the money, I don't know how true it is but the president of the club not too long ago said that if they hadn't sold him they wouldn't have had the necessary funds to play in the UEFA Cup the next season. Anyway, I have no idea what happened to him because he was so ****ing sick in Sevilla. Since he's also a born-and-raised Sevillano, I'd say he was the favorite player for 90% of us. Now it seems he'd barely be good enough to come off the bench for Capel or Jesus Navas, and not even that probably now that Negredo is in town. Super early peek I guess with the inability to make a cultural adjustment thrown in (read: when you're from Sevilla it's going to be tough to deal with the London drizzle)

As usual there is no real point to this rant, I just wanted to say Jose Antonio and throw a **** you at whoever took him since he's such a perfect last-round pick for me.

I would love to see if his dives coincided with periods where HE was the penalty taker.

At Juve it became quite a story how he never seemed to celebrate if it was partner Del Piero getting to a chance and scoring.

Hints of frustration sometimes too, if you looked closely.

I still remember watching Reyes maybe only for the second time overall in a game where he completely raped Madrid. I thought there was no way he wouldn't become a superstar.
08-27-2009 , 05:48 PM
Gollum has finally been picked.
08-27-2009 , 05:50 PM
i'm here fwiw, but only know one pick aorn. won't hold things up though

I didn't like him for a long time but I think I'll actually miss him when he is finally gone.

He is just a complete nutcase I've realised and it's also quite fascinating how someone who does so many things so much worse than most players at this level has still been such an effective player.

Even something like the last time I watched Milan. In the Berlusconi Trophy game where he within a minute of entering the game as a sub, had already been called for offside twice. Funny.

I guess it's time I pick a player I've never watched in a full match (too).

He is currently being labeled as the new Messi. At least it's not the new Maradona anymore?!

And someone like that even if it's a longshot is nice to have.
He likely has more talent than quite a few youngsters already picked and there is definitely a chance he'll become a sensation this year. Lets just say that.

And in Argentina he has been that already of course so it isn't like he hasn't shown anything yet.

In what could turn out to be quite the scoop he was signed this year by self proclaimed championship contenders Palermo.

Guardian article:

Quote:
He is light years ahead of his nearest competitor in the 'Lyrical Ranking' – a weekly tribute to the showboaters among Argentina's top flight footballers. Sports daily Olé's readers recently voted him the best player of the season, while Clarín's journalists rate him as the second top performer of the season. Some 680,292 mangers have him in their fantasy football teams. Manchester United are reported to have tabled a £8.8m bid, which he turned down. Milan and Lazio are also interested. He's the son every madre wants after he ran over to kiss his mum through the fencing to celebrate a goal. He's the boyfriend that every señorita wants thanks to his boyish good looks. Huracán's 19-year-old midfielder, Javier Pastore, is creating quite a stir in Argentina.

Just over a week ago, he single-handedly demolished River Plate with two goals and an assist in his side's 4-0 win over the millonarios. Many thought Pastore had played his best game of the season. Then last Saturday night he scored two more against Rosario Central, and was inches away from his first top flight hat-trick when his shot cannoned off the crossbar. With seven goals from midfield this season, he is his club's top scorer.

I pick Javier Pastore

ZOMG YES YES YES

Sevilla 4 - 1 Real Madrid with the RM goal I think being a garbage goal near the end.

That is probably my favorite game ever. Sevilla absolutely crushed them, and if anything the score could have been worse. Watching the galacticos get more and more pissed off and snippy with each other because they know they're getting played off the park while the crowd is waving pañuelos (white handkerchiefs like at the end of a bullfight) might be better than sex.

Reyes and Dani Alves were easily the best players on the pitch, this with Real Madrid running out Figo, Zidane, Beckham and an only slightly overweight Ronaldo. I can still picture in my head an incredibly good play where he made a perfect sort of not quite sliding challenge, was able to take the ball and turn as he got up, got into scoring position on a 1-2, pulled the ball back making the defender look like a bull charging past the bullfighter, and then played it to the center for a pretty easy finish that Casillas could only wave at as it went past him. Not the sort of thing that people would put at the top of their best-goals list, but amazing none the less.
08-27-2009 , 06:18 PM
I remember Reyes as one of the most talented players out there, then he went to England for a ton of money and after that he somehow seemed to have lost it.
08-27-2009 , 06:20 PM
The past two posts are why you two are 1-2 in my power rankings.
08-27-2009 , 06:21 PM
boo I think I have to pick a defender here.

The rumors are that Henry just totally killed his psyche

Yup!
08-27-2009 , 06:27 PM
ok then

first, from fluminese, fred
second, from espanyol, shunsuke nakamura
third, from sampdoria, giampaolo pazzini
08-27-2009 , 06:30 PM
I should really go for some of my favorite defensive talent instead of this but I'm gonna be a nit and go for what I think is a safe pick.

Some will have watched him more than me but when I've seen him he always seems really solid and with really good defensive instincts.

I only have three central defenders too so he could even win some playing time since they're probably not all that far apart really.

Sevilla and current Les Bleus squad member Julien Escude is my final pick.

08-27-2009 , 06:33 PM
Pazzini is definitely value here. At Fiorentina he was never the man but now that he is at Sampdoria the goals will keep coming and he will likely be an important player for the national team as well in not too long.

He was very unlucky to be sent off against Ireland but him starting that game is a good indicator of how good he is right now.
08-27-2009 , 06:33 PM
