I hope none of this is true because otherwise I will be on season long tilt if we don't qualify. It seems incredibly dumb too because he would help us qualify ldo.

Don't you have to register your squad for both legs before the first match?

This picture of Jay Spearing w/ Mata is legit such a beat for Spearing. Isn't he like 18? He looks like he could be Rooney's father.

makes sense for hazard. can't fault him for wanting to know for sure that he will get CL after he was an integral part of helping lille win the league and qualify. that all caps rant doesn't really make sense to me btw tsc.

Not to worry, you've just signed some kid, entering into a period of rebuilding imo.

Makes no sense modric wants to stay at spurs.

Which is worse, starting Jenkinson, Miyaichi and Frimmpong in important games or not overspending on players? I think this question confuses Wenger greatly.

I still think Wenger is, at least in part, taking the bullet for Arsenal ownership. Even if that's no longer the case, he's been repeating his mantra for so long that combined with his ego, he thinks that he can coach em up and go from there.

i can see the almost nonexistent similarities.

modric wasn't enough to get us back in the CL. if he was going from chelsea to spurs then sure, but this is nothing like the case of hazard.

how does going from a team you just helped win the league to no CL = going from a team you didn't help qualify for CL to a team that did?

i don't even know why you would try to bring modric up in this. you are comparing a situation where the player is unwilling to go along with a deal to one where a club is.

i always maintained that was the case, but that Luke Wilshere dude apparently debunked that with some link i forgot to read about how Arsenal are busto, and said that the shareholders aren't actually collecting dividends from club profits. seemed like they must have been rolling in the money given the club's transfer activity in recent years, and the new stadium development, but i guess not? seems to fit with Wenger's obvious and growing frustration. i mean i think if he had money to spend he wouldn't be doing what he's been doing in the last few years.

They aren't necessarily pocketing the money, but at least initially I think the whole "must get value" thing was camouflage for "not actually having money to spend". Whether there were no funds because they were short cash-flow or because ownership was taking money out a la the Glazers is sort of besides the point.

tbh, I have a very hard time believing that arsenal are as busto as that claim was (it was swiss ramble iirc, and they are very reliable, but still). They are a club that was in teh top 5 of the rich list with a turnover at 274.1m euro. Something just really isn't adding up imo

Well, if the Russian dude gets his stake to 30% it might all come out. Could get ugly.

Lille lost both Gervinho and Cabaye, two pivotal pieces, so they will do **** all in the CL. Their appearance is meaningless and Hazard gains almost nothing by being in it. Arsenal is also way bigger than Lille so moving makes sense regardless of CL play. Modric staying at Spurs makes little sense if Chelsea legit want him. The two scenarios are comparable, but its funny when a Spurs fan doesn't recognize this.

Harry Kewell has agreed terms to join Melbourne Victory. Reportedly the agreement includes Kewell receiving an enormous percentage of any increase in revenue (gate takings, merchandising etc).

Kewell is probably the most well-known name here amongst people who only pay attention to soccer for World Cup campaigns. While Robbie Fowler was a big signing for people who were already fans, this may get new fans through the gate. Will be interesting to see what effect it has on attendances.

I'd like to say I wish him well, but obviously I can't as it's Melbourne Victory.

they are nothing alike. thinking they are is pure stupidity. rethink it tsc. the situation we are discussing is one where lille are willing to sell but hazard is unsure if he wants to go. in the case of modric he wants to go quite clearly, but the club don't want to sell and have a 5 year contract. if you are arguing that modric wants to go, then congrats. that is apparent. the difference is that it is not at all up to him.
