Nobody bit on Falcao for 30 million so I don't understand how is value is raised by raising the release clause.

How hard is it to understand that the minimum amount they can lose him for against their will has increased by 50% ?

fwiw Courtois definitely played great the whole season for Genk and basically won them the league with a couple of miraculous saves in the last 15 minutes of the last game of the season, a direct confrontation between Genk and Standard that determined the league winner.

I think it could well prove to be a great deal for Chelsea.

his point is that at some point it becomes meaningless. for instance, hulk has an absurd buyout clause. i don't remember what it is exactly, but if they were to resign and raise it to 200m, it wouldn't mean a damn thing.

i think porto would still accept close to 30m for falcao now.

<------ took Falcao in the last round of the 2p2 dynasty draft a year ago.

30 to 50mil is not meaningless tho

if falcao has an even better season this year some teams may be willing to offer 40-45mil for him
this is basically an insurance that falcao wont be able to be easily purchased under marketvalue

you would have a point if porto raised it from 70mil to 150mil or sth like that

while this seems pretty reasonable, i don't really agree still. the main issue is, how can falcao really have a better year than last year? he ****ed **** up. also, he is at the point in age where value will be peaking and the extra year in age won't help his value any. i find the 40-45m price you mentioned to be a bit ridiculous. how many players from second rate leagues go for that much? would none be about right? that is ridic money and i don't think anyone would pay it for someone in the portuguese league.

I would have said the same thing about Liverpool and midfielders when they bought Henderson.

Apparently Villa have bid £10m for N'Zogbia. Waiting to hear back from Dave Whelan, I bet he talks to SSN first.

idk why you guys think a club like porto would definitely turn down 30m+ bids. obviously nobody has bid that so its pretty tough to know for sure, but apparently 30m is pocket change now and won't buy you ****. sure that would be like top 20 all time transfer value but its like PENNIES.

if i were them i might consider selling hulk if they could get a good price. i don't rate him as highly as falcao but past inquiries and reports have suggested that he is priced higher. could buy like 1000 prospects and hope to get a couple more falcao/hulks.

the only way it would be considered at this point is if the release clause is met. who signs a new contract and leaves in the same summer besides homeless guys?

obviously its not like i think he is going to leave. this probably means that chelsea weren't interested and that he isn't interested in coming to a club like us or comparable. might as well take the pay rise if you are falcao.

do you think that Porto will get someone to buy for 50M if he throws a hissy fit, publicly complains to the press, hands in a written transfer request, and makes a huge stink about only going to one club in particular?

I'd hardly say that a release clause is the "minimum" they would get for him. If he wants to leave, it will be hard to stop him from leaving. See Modric, Luka.

Edit: obviously I realize Modric doesn't have a release clause but I'm pretty sure Chelsea would still be stumping these 22M and 27M offers even if he did.

portos bargaining power def got strengthened a lot by this tho
not only in regards to dealing with other clubs but also with falcao too

he now cant really make a huge stink, "you just signed a new improved deal dude with an included release clause of 50mil, if someone is willing to offer that for you we let you leave, if not stay and STFU"

Arsene Wenger has hired a photoshop expert to change Bendtner's passport to English in order to sell him to Liverpool for £20 million.

good point wrt to shutting up Falcao, but these days, the players have too much power and I"m still not convinced that that line of reasoning will work if Falcao turns on Porto.
