Falcao went for 45m euro, not sterling. It's still a ****load of money, but different

weird spot with Valdes, I think he's very important and it's really, really hard to find a player of the same strong personality and technical confidence that's both a great 1-v-1 keeper (being the most common type of chances that Barca concedes) and amazing distributor that he is.

He's also way more aggressive than Iker/DDG types on crosses, I'd say Pepe Reina before his form dived off a cliff.

Barcelona had a ton of goalkeepers (with varying success) between Zubizaretta retiring and finally settling on Valdes.

As you say peak Reina would be a good choice but he's been in dreadful form for a while now. It's not an easy situation as there are highly rated keepers who won't be a good match for Barcelona.

It will be Reina. He grew up at Barca, his dad played for them (keeper) and he is exceptional on the ball which is a prerequisite.

Actually wouldn't surprise me if Valdes goes in the opposite direction.

Late to this but lol at Busquets being the 6th/7th most important player for barca. He's imo clearly 4th behind M-X-I, and would be higher still if not for the fact those 3 ahead of him are all GOAT-level. Even saying he's 4th doesn't quite fully tell the story; I'd say a more accurate portrayal would be that he's their last absolutely essential piece in order to play at their highest level. All others are more or less replaceable, relatively speaking ofc.

Hughes, a terrible manager, played Derry 30 minutes all season. Harry has come in and given him four starts, for two wins and two draws.
And hes been top class every now. Love Shaun

So apparently Remy told the telegraph that he chose QPR because he played a FIFA game with Tony Fernandes and he saw that he's a good person.

it's really a brilliant piece of business by bilbao to hold onto him and not sell and then banish him into obscurity for his last season so they get very little value.

Do you have something else than Yousee? I was unaware of this possibility.

In general, they should make they viewing experience more customizable by eg. allowing one to choose the "stadium/tower" camera to get a better view of the pitch, especially when watching matches from stadiums like the old Highbury or White Hart Lane, when they choose the low camera. Similarly, as suggested in the "improve a sport" thread, a QB POV in NFL would be nice.

Didn't Valdes suffer from mild depression or something. Seems like the "all this pressure" argument is legit. Wouldn't be shocked if he ended his career or went to some club where he can chill a bit for the rest of his career.

He isn't allowed to drive a motorcycle with his current contract. Maybe he wants to let his inner biker loose.

Could have easily had 20m, prob closer to 30. Isn't the point of keeping players before losing them on free to get value out of them through their play?

We need to stop applying normal rules of finance and logic to Bilbao in how they deal with transfers.

Yes. This is something I've always been keen on. With football, you can't compare live experience to TV experience. Too many aspects of the match are missed on the TV. Whereas with some other sports it is almost better to watch on the TV.

But an elevated camera would be amazing. Or even a "Seat Cam" from different points of the stadium. Of course I wouldn't expect any of these features any time soon.

fyp. I mean, it's admirable that they are still on a basque-only policy, but the other basque clubs gave that up a long time ago. Bilbao may have always been the biggest of the basque clubs, but normal logic doesn't apply to them.
