Our slo-pitch team often plays with a rover to the pull side of the hitter. Can't say I've seen 5 infielders before. Where exactly do you position all five infielders?

We've had 5 infielders against our team before. It was because we had too many guys who hit ground balls though.

They played the SS toward 3rd more and then a 5th guy played just a shade on the SS side of 2nd base.

Unfortunately, men's fastball has evolved into a game of catch between the pitcher and catcher. It used to be ok now it's down to which team can "hire" the best ringer pictcher for a tourney.

I know a guy and that's all he does in the summer....get's paid to pitch fastball.

In the old days it the pitchers were "whips" and it was basically a game of "acn you hit my fastball." Now, will 6 foot 6" pictches lunging off the rubber, and throughing nasty junk and brutal offspeed stuff, it really has taking much of the hitting out of the game. Lots of 1-0 games and it's not that fun to play or watch.

I remember the last few years I played half of the players where bunting or trying to slap down a ball dead in front of the plate just to get on base, in the hope that scoring one run would win the game. It didn't seem to mater how many outs or what the count was.....

It's not like that here - plus, we don't play tournaments very often. The leagues require participation in the league games to play in the playoffs, so they can't "hire" ringers. There's some pretty good hitters in this league, too.

it happens, i know it does. my brother hit .750 one year against the best teams in the area, but he's a freak, and was on fire for about 5 weeks. it was unreal. but that took literally every star aligning, little to no lineouts, and just staying with an up-the-middle swing every single at bat.

most people i hear talking about .700 wouldn't hit .500 against good defenses..

The few times I've seen someone hit .700 over the longterm, then 95% of their hits are singles. It's really BS to hear these stats and also claims that MR. .700 plus is a power-hitter.

Excuse to bump this thread.

Last week some guy died sliding into home plate. A throw from the cutoff man got by the catcher and hit him in the ear or neck. He passed out almost immediately and died. Scary stuff.

Throw busted an artery in his neck or something, hence the quick death.

But uhhh yeah, I mean, losing by 20 runs in softball is kind of comparable.

Bump for my double header opener last night.

0-8. Solid. 3 lineouts to the outfield. 3 groundouts to 3rd. A fielder's choice. A foul out which is like my first in three years.

I have no idea wtf went wrong, but it was an atrocious showing. I hit the ball solid on every one except the foul out. I just hit it at people. Still inexcusable.

One game tonight. First hit of the season I hope.

what's longterm?

because he was hitting for power too, i remember another guy that we played with also hit .700 over a season (80ish games) with power..

hit the ball hard enough, you can stay hot for that long..

i've inherited the duties of statistician for this summer...our original 'coach' (more like pays for tournaments up front/collects, makes lineups with our input, etc.) decided to move down leagues, and everyone immediately told me i'm it.

1. any iPhone apps that i can input game stats into?

2. i know there are things like that online, any you recommend? i can't remember the one i was using when i was coaching high school, but i'm sure it's easily found.

no WAY i'm doing everything by hand like brian did..

theres a guy who had a cup of coffee for the red sox in my softball league, he's hit .700+ each year i've played in this league (4th year this year)

we have a guy that made AA in our league...lots of power, probably hits .580-.600...

again, it reeeeally depends on your league.

if your league is legit, hitting .700 probably would take talent like that...then again, in our lower leagues, there's always a 46-year old singles hitter that gets to .700...we played him once, and had our outfielders playing about 30 feet off the infield, and he went 1-4..

We have a 50 year old who can hit the ball more accurately than you can throw it. He'll hit .700 with a metal bat in any ASA league you care to give him.

Played competitive softball for 15+ years. I recently "retired" for two reasons:

1.) to train for the NY and Chicago marathons

2.) because of the stat mongers on my team annoyed me to no end. "THTH, that was a hit" Um, really, it's slow pitch softball, give me a break.

Anyway, I found a picture on my hard drive of one of my teams. The guy on the top right corner hit the lights on that diamond on a few occassions. He was freakishly athletic. Fastest guy on the team, played QB in college, was a successful body builder for a few years, etc.

Ever seen someone where a pitcher's helmet for slow-pitch softball?

yeah, i've seen helmets, shin-pads and mouthpieces...as if i happen to hit a line drive at their teeth, they'd stay in their mouth..lol...

I played a few seasons in our professional "architects and engineers" co-ed league, which was fun. Good way to network, and if you are good at softball...good way to make friends with higher up coworkers. Hehehe.

I think we paid $2 to get into the park and would be given 2 tokens for a free beverage (soda or draft beer). So it was routine to drink 2 brews before the 2 games we'd play that night. Just enough to bring me down after working all day and loosen me up. But not enough to where I'd want to start drinking 3, 4, 6, 9 beers lol.

I remember the first game I played with a buzz I was in RF for an inning (they didn't know I had any kind of skills because I wear glasses I guess). Anyway this shmuck rips a linedrive base hit right to me that bounces maybe 2 or 3 times and I trot up to it and glove it and look up to see him heading for 2nd and good thing our SS was covering cuz I came up firing with my buzz on and gunned this fool down. lol. He got up and looked out at me and shook his head and trotted off the field like a dumbass. Granted I'd love a guy like that on our team as it's a great gamble. He's safe probably 98 times out of 100, considering there is usually a girl in RF in co-ed.

RE: No fences... playing no fence softball is absurd. I'd just rip liners down the line or to the gap and circle the bags. That's no fun for anyone. Only time I can remember playing without fences was in a co-ed intramural league in college. One ball I hit rolled all the way to the highway, then in another game I smashed a homer and cicled the bags to hear the ump say they accidentally pitched me the harder "girl" ball so I had to re-bat with the softer "guy" ball and their RFer backed up and I launched it over his head again on the first pitch and circled the bags lol. Everyone was like "well can we get those 2 minutes of our life back that we all lost?" haha.

Man reading this thread makes me want to go play!

yep...those are the ones...

and honestly, as someone who pitches occassionally, you'd feel a lot more ballsy and 'safe' with one on..you might get laughed at, but i'd be a lot more aggressive fielding with one on.

If I was laughed at I would just "accidentally" throw an overhand fastball up and in on the next pitch. lol.
