I realize I'm too much of a nit for my own good but I have a hard time suspending disbelief for fights like the one at the end of last night's ep. It's dark except for random flames; how do these people know who is on what team? They're not wearing uniforms. Just people flailing about in semi-darkness and killing each other. I mean, if it can happen to Pat Tillman on the side of a hill in the middle of nowhere it's going to happen quite a bit on a crowded, sinking ship where half the people are foaming at the mouth and presumably drunk.

I'm with you on this. Not to mention that it seems like some of these people would be familiar with ones on the other side since they only split into two factions like a year ago. Gotta be hard to remember if the random guy you see joined your team or not when there are thousands of people like that.

Also, seeing as the white man has ruled much of civilization for most of recorded history it's only fair that someone else gets a turn, but I'm coming to the realization that this show is a diddlefest for man-haters out there.

It's been tacking for its entire run towards womyn running the world. At first I thought GRRM just hated giving viewers what they want but this is really the subtext. Note:

- all men with power who don't first die in a viscerally remarkable fashion eventually lose their c0ck & balls (if they had them to begin with), hand, head, ability to walk, or have some other crippling malady befall them (Jorah). As a midget Tyrion is in a protected class so he merely got his face slashed.

- Kingslayer went from villain edit to hero edit after he could only count to five.

- man vs. man conflict is inevitable, and in pretty much every instance the more repulsive Man won (Joffrey v. Ned, Mountain v. Oberon, Walder vs. Robb) but the winner eventually ended up dying as well in spectacular fashion.

- man vs. woman is always won by woman, if not straightaway then in the long run. Thus it's fair to assume that Euron will get his, no doubt at the hands of the very same person he's not going to kill. Seeing as they've barely fleshed out his character that will presumably happen sooner rather than later.

- to date the notable exception to all this man-carnage is Carcetti: his c0ck and balls, perma-smirky face, and dignity are all intact. Yet he's done a lot of very naughty things. This means his demise will be particularly remarkable, I'm guessing via fire after double-crossing one person too many (you come at the dragon queen you best not miss...).

- Jon Snow is the other notable example but I think that's because he's been written as a Perfect Man who Always Does the Right Thing. Presumably he will bend the knee and ultimately get rewarded with the North, reporting directly to the Danny in the Seven Kingdoms Org Chart. The "we need to mine the **** out of this area around your castle so we don't die" being a likely pretext to getting there.

- thus Cersei is too much like a dude (albeit a dude I'd love to ****) to win.

All of this is fine and good, whatever. The Olenna-Daenerys conversation though was very lol. Tyrion is a proven general with upsets even greater than Giants-Pats and Danny just hangs out and issues Strongly Worded Edicts and has her dragons do all her dirty work. Tyrion laid out a solid game plan only to have Olenna advise to Danny that it be disregarded primarily because...Tyrion has a dick? That's a bridge too far.

That's a little too wanting. The 3 strongest female characters are potentially approaching psychopath territory, while the redemption of Jaime is one of the strongest plot lines of the series and Jon has been a rock the entire time. We haven't seen Yara die, but there obviously wasn't a problem killing off the sun snakes even though they were seen (apparently) as strong women.

I think the gender dynamics have been treated pretty fairly. If anything, one of the strongest gender themes is the ability of strong women to take advantage of weak men, and that's hardly new.

having the fight at night made sense in the sense that

1) that's how you can surprise people at sea / how you get the lesbian scene in at the same time
2) it was cool to see the flames and **** and seeing Euron at night was scarier

and whoever wrote the episode just cared about that way more than "how could they possibly find the right ship in the pitch black".

but that's the show in a nutshell. so much doesn't pass any level of logical scrutiny

also, last night's director was the same guy who had Arya survive and thrive after taking 1,000 stab wounds to the stomach

looool.

You think the director over ruled the script?

Writers have been mashing buttons since they moved past the point where they could use Martin's text as an outline. It is known (TM).

I have no idea how the sausage gets made / if the director can make those sorts of changes. but maybe he sold the fact that there would be more drama if you did the scene at night. maybe the original scene had Euron popping out from around a corner or something, lol who knows.

anyways, yeah, I could see that as being something the director wants to do. he's not really rewriting it, he's just staging it a certain way, which afaik is a large part of the job

I definitely see the ambiguity on second watch.
I didn't interpret it that way at all. I interpreted as Nymeria is a god damn wolf and you can't just expect some wolf you haven't seen in years to be your lap dog again because reasons.

Yeah I legitimately got distracted for a second when I was watching because I was wondering how the hell anyone knew who to attack and who to help.

I had a good laugh at the BIG TIME CROSSBOW. At the buildup as others have said and just how ridiculous the logistics of it are. Who mans it, a team? How long does it take to load? Who sneaks into Dany's camp night after night to slowly teach the dragons that when the battle begins, you come to a rest 30 feet in front of the crossbow and rest your still head on the ground in a wordless offering?

no offense but this is the sorta level1 take I expect Jeff Teague>George Hill slappies to have. It's kind of a pointless scene if the only point was that wolves be wolfin', yo.

I'm starting to come around with the people who are rooting for basically a troll ending at this point, the most likely of those I guess would be Euron on the iron throne or the white walkers just coasting over Westeros and ending humanity there. I like Tut's idea of a very prominent character falling off a dragon accidentally, they could make it a wacky, sloppy death and play it for laughs like Brad Pitt getting mushed up in Meet Joe Black.
