I refuse to believe that the article isn't a practical joke to see what they can get newspapers to believe

Every movement has Pharisees, sanctimonious chest-beaters who care more about feeling like they are above others than they do about living their supposed values, be them social justice or something else.

That said: At the same time, someone who has been raped probably doesn't want to read a graphic story of a rape, for PTSD-related reasons, so warning them of such is fine and I don't see a problem with it.

Sure, some people are overvigilant and use them in abundance and unnecessarily. On the other hand, I think if you err on the side of being considerate to others, you're not really making a mistake.

And when it comes down to it, why does the phrase "trigger warning" bother any of you so much? If you see one in something you're about to read, and it doesn't apply to you, skip it. Why does it make you mad?
Are there trigger warnings for "war related content" (including news) or is there talk about it. Seems PTSD-relevant (probably more relevant) as well.

I had never heard of the idea before it was mentioned ITT.

I'm pretty confident GoT is going to continue tanking and end terribly, mostly because of this quote from GRRM:

Quote:
I think there are two types of writers, the architects and the gardeners. The architects plan everything ahead of time, like an architect building a house. They know how many rooms are going to be in the house, what kind of roof they're going to have, where the wires are going to run, what kind of plumbing there's going to be. They have the whole thing designed and blueprinted out before they even nail the first board up. The gardeners dig a hole, drop in a seed and water it. They kind of know what seed it is, they know if planted a fantasy seed or mystery seed or whatever. But as the plant comes up and they water it, they don't know how many branches it's going to have, they find out as it grows. And I'm much more a gardener than an architect.
GRRM is rationalizing not having a ****ing clue where the story is going. Seems to me that a story as vast and complex as GoT would necessitate an author who actually maps out all the key stuff and not someone who comes up with a few basic ideas then freestyles a bunch of random **** thereafter.

It's extremely obvious where he stopped planning the story as evidenced by an extremely harsh drop off after asos ends

I know homeland did the standard "scenes that may be disturbing to some viewers". seems absurd to expect anything more specific than that to spoil the show with.

Book 4 and 5 are great imo but they're like the wire season 2 where you might not fully appreciate them until the second time through because the format and pacing is slightly different than the first 3 books.

Any number of story lines would have been a million times better than the abortion that is season 5.

Lol non book readers being proud they don't read.

I read one. Got a couple chapters into the second and had to quit. So awful.

Well they aren't objectively good. (no media is) Not everyone will like them and that's obv fine. Personally I was a show only watcher through season 4 and since then I've read the entire series 2 times. I've also watched the first 4 seasons through prolly 3-4 times and think they are amazing. Season 5 is horrendous so far. Still hoping for a turnaround but not holding my breath.

How much time do you feel you spent reading the books?

I don't know about time, but I finish about a book per week.

I have the audio books, but I only play them when I'm in bed and I tend to wake up the next morning with nfi where I was up to.

Catching up on Louie. It's still not great, though I've had some laughs.

Just watched "Bobby's House." hopefully that's the last of Pamela Adlon's character. Their storylines are terrible.

But can we clear one thing up. She just pegged him sans consent, yes? Is the new yorker out on Louie now?

Comparing the latest GOT books to season 2 of The Wire gets me furious in a very major way.

knowing this show, there's a decent chance of yet another pointless detour or them just shelving the storyline until next season
