How is it possible that someone like Suarez doesn't get out of group play but borderline irrelevant personalities like Cam Newton, Steph Curry and Jimmy Butler get nominated at all. Good lord this is dumb.

All ears for hearing more discussions about the groups. Trying to categorize them in a way that makes sense

Also Clark if you still read TZ you'd know those people have been talked about constantly all year, don't know how they are irrelevant to SE

I read TZ and it's beyond ******ed that the a player whose sole relevance is Assani Fisher's opinion of him is in this.

Heck, the idea of "let's discuss who could be a #4-7 overall" player is incredibly dumb. I'm sure that Labron is in here somewhere (he should be), let's just stack it with more NBA stuff.

There should be some form of meaningful macro-level relevance and frankly none of that group qualify.

I started a thread for this exact reason and really didn't get any feedback. I don't know if you suggested anything, but started this whole new thread anyway just to call it dumb (when a thread for this already exists)

If you have ideas on how to make this competition more balanced, I'd be glad to hear it. We decided to group people in to specific categories like this instead of just doing overall seeding and grouping that way. Was just a fun thing to do, the cream will still rise regardless

Anyway, other groups currently being considered are one for Coaches and one for Media Personalities. Nominations encouraged.

remember this is a competition for people most relevant to SE.

Agree maybe Suarez was put in too strong of a group but I think the way mjw did that group was really fine and not worth that much criticism

Also, have no issue scrapping an existing group or trying something different. Like I said, I think it's difficult to do this correctly.

We easily could have jus listed the 32 most famous athletes in the world and seeded them in to groups, but we wanted to be able to have the Flaccos, Riverboats, CTs, etc of the world

Lebron is obviously way more famous than the guys in the NBA group but he's been discussed in SE this season less than all four, which I thought was a main criteria

Your boy didn't make it Clark because all his slurpers couldn't grasp the fact that acts committed during 2010 or 2011 aren't relevant for the 2013 SE POY award. That kind of aggressive stupidity is endemic to SE's soccer threads and should not and will not be tolerated by the rest of us. Murica.

I think the NBA one should be redone the more I think about it

it should have LeBron and Durrant instead of melo and Jimmy

Group D is fine, threadzilla is a big part of SE and those guys drove a ton of discussion. I'd say group C is the weaker of the two current groups, those guys are more relevant to general sports, but not particularly noteworthy to SE in 2013. The great Brady vs Manning debate was at its peak years ago in SE, Cam is just driving Riverboat Ron's train, and nobody has ever had anything to say about Dru Bre other than he's really good afaik

Clark has nailed it. Oscar Pistorius and Luis Suarez should have been locks for progression. I have to vote for Steph Curry, but a guy with zero, I repeat zero, legs and is a world renowned athlete and inspiration murders someone and he doesn't get past Rd 1.

WTF

Yea, I agree with this. I'm kinda confused why the QB's have their own category when JOEY FLACCS is apparently going to be in a different category?

Unless that category is the RIVERMAN category, then carry on with JOEY FLACCS over there and maybe just re-do this QB one. Peyton's comeback is cool and all but the other 3 aren't that relevant.
