An overly optimistic take would be that he used the things from years ago to rise to prominence and now that he is a VP he's no longer required to do whatever it takes to get himself known.

It's one of their few redeeming qualities. Are you suggesting what the world needs is more absolutism?

2 things.

1. As people move to cities more and more, the left will continue to win the culture wars going forward. More people knowing people who aren't exactly like them is a true driver of change on cultural and social issues.

2. Yes, pot is not a primary issue. But it isn't simply "lol I wanna get stoned legally, lol." It's also about civil liberties and rejecting the overbearing authoritarianism that has plauged a lot of American politics for decades.

Guys, as an Indiana resident and someone that's lived through PEAK PENCE:

He believes it. It's not an act. He really is this dumb.

Guess it's not super surprising for anyone, but still a good little read.

Read "The Closing of the American Mind" by Allan Bloom. Covers this exact problem.

I haven't read it but I will say that the moral relativism that Clark is worried about isn't really relativism at all. It's moral absolutism where the only moral absolute is freedom. It seems like relativism because as long as we aim towards freedom all is permitted but there is no space for the questioning of the absolute value of freedom.

It's part and parcel of the everyone gets a trophy conceit and the notion that no opinion is any better or worse than any other opinion despite the evidence or support for said opinion.

Moral absolutism and relativism both generally do more harm than good, and both suffer from the limited introspection possible when there's only one right answer to every question or no wrong answer to any question. Both positions are patently unscientific.

Let me give an example:

Someone once argued to the hilt that if someone claimed racism didn't exist in the world they weren't wrong and couldn't be wrong.
