Disko, so what if you were born in the exact same circumstances except you were born stupid?

What if you were born without parents or mentors of some sort inculcating grit and perseverance into you?

For each situation, do you think you still get to where you are now?

If remotely true I'm sure he got zero help from any govt programs along the way. Just 100% grit, wits and bootstraps.

Like I said I'm not going into details hope u guys can respect that

As far as govt programs go, nothing really other than Medicaid, HUD and financial aid for my crap college that cost like 3k a year or something. Obv I would've been better off not in a situation to "benefit" from those tho but I know you racist whites love to be able to point to dem poor ppl programz as why you're stuck !

Can't resist.

Is it racist for white people to advocate for government programs intended to help poor people because of the implication that those white people believe "dem poor [minorities]" cannot succeed otherwise?

Or is it racist for white people to blame government programs intended to help poor people for their own troubles because those programs cause "dem poor [minorities]" to take white people jobs?

The latter I can totally get on board with being racist because it is racist, the former is . . . hilariously stupid and also exactly the pathetic excuse W used to justify cutting government expenditures intended to benefit the poor ("the soft bigotry of low expectations").

You've hit this "ageism" and "racism" note before and every single time it has been unclear what you actually mean.

LOLOLOLOL nothing other than Medicaid, HUD and financial aid. JFC - do you think that stuff just comes down from God? Why do you want to kick the ladder out behind you?

Incredible

I was referring to the latter. Suzzer passively dismissing success because I benefited from govt programs that are mostly used by poors/minorities.

When I complain about ageism it's usually bc ppl say "boomers are the worst" it's really no diff than saying "xxx race is the worst" but nobody cares bc everyone in here is young. Still offensive tho

I guess my question is whether I'm a raging racist because I want to preserve Medicaid even though I've never been on it in my life.

Then I agree with you re: the latter.

I think suzzer is trying to say why would you support politicians who want to remove from other people like you the things that helped, to some degree, facilitate your achievement?

He's just doing so in the least empathetic and sober way possible. . .

You literally are incapable of grasping this aren't you? It's not about your success. No one is questioning your determination or cleverness. Actually the contrary - we're all for stuff like HUD, Medicaid and financial aid - specifically to help smart, hard-working kids born into a bad situation.

It's about you benefiting from govt programs that helped you rise out of your situation - while you enthusiastically support candidates who want to destroy those same safety nets. You are kicking the ladder out behind you and you don't care because it won't personally affect you. It's not a good look.

Oh yeah - sorry for not showing more empathy for the guy who repeatedly eschews the concept that we should even have empathy for others. I'll watch my tone next time.

Support is a tricky word, I don't support anyone. I don't vote or even talk politics outside of this thread occasionally.

I obv root for things that I think would be +EV for my family and I but I don't go as far as to support them happening. It would be hard to do anyway since the politicians who want what's best for me aren't always on the same side.

I'm not telling you to watch your tone, but if you expect responses from the guy I mean . . . your call.

"Trump wants to build the wall - which is cool" - disko circa 2016.

Meanwhile $900B cuts in Medicaid later, HUD in jeopardy, cuts to education programs....

Given the taxes you now (presumably) pay, seems like a huge ROI investment by the government to ensure you'll be in a position where it's possible to crush it. Shows pretty well why handouts is a dumbass word.

Here's my problem with the world view of Thayer/Woody itt. It's not at all consistent.

Their view is basically "**** has to get a lot worse before it gets better." They've said this, more or less verbatim, over and over in here. The problem is that this view has the premise that you believe that both your institutions and the common man can survive basically anything. That the institutions created decades to hundreds of years ago are strong enough to survive anything Trump can throw at them, and that the people will get #woke and rise up once things get bad enough.

The problem is that Thayer and Woody certainly do not believe in these institutions, and want many destroyed themselves AND think the common man is a moron. These inconsistent views are never squared, but instead laughed off.
