Also, I'll be attending the Showtime card at The Joint at Hard Rock Casino in Vegas tonight - Mickey Bey vs John Molina and Badou Jack vs Farrah Ennis, among other fights. Any fight fans in Vegas with no plans tonight should get out there.

Last week I was at Texas Station Casino for the ESPN2 FNF card headlined by Han-Tapia and Francisco-Avalos. Fantastic show, great action, star power in the building. TRs and some pics to follow from both of these shows!

For anyone in the southwest US, there are a bunch of upcoming cards. Tomorrow night there is a card at Fantasy Springs Casino in Indio, CA, (though the Corley-Frankie Gomez main event was cancelled) next Friday ESPN2 will broadcast a FNF from Thunder Valley Casino outside of Sacramento (starring Juan Carlos Burgos, last seen in a controversial draw against Rocky Martinez on the Garcia-Salido undercard) and as well there is a card the same night in Ontario, CA.

On August 9th there are cards in Cabazon, CA (ESPN2 FNF) and again in Indio, (Showtime; Deontay Wilder/Jermall Charlo/Francisco Vargas) and of course on August 24th there is the amazing Mares-Gonzales/Santa Cruz-Terrazas Showtime card in Carson.

There's no better live entertainment value than smaller-venue live boxing imo.

Also, Showtime steady making HBO look bad as usual. Some recently made fights that look enticing: Cleverly-Kovalev, Geale-Barker, Beltran-Burns. And Curtis Stevens gets his chance to headline an NBC Sports card on August 3rd. I'm a big Stevens fan, amazingly beautiful left hook.

Wow, Garcia-Mathysse got done for Sept. I've been watching the last few Mayweather fights at bars, so this time won't be different.

Guess Tyson ran out of stories for his one man Vegas show.

Without looking into it too far, I would bet that Tyson is just the front man/name for some businessman to promote.

I see headlines like "Will Mike Tyson Succeed?" That seems to be the wrong question to ask. It's likely Tyson being paid a fee and/or % of the business to be a name/face, and the real people behind it will be the difference between success and failure. If they market Tyson the right way and handle promotional stuff well, it could be a success.

I don't know enough about boxing promotions to make a guess. Seems gimmicky to me, but it's entertainment, being gimmicky is not the difference between success and failure.

meh

rather see him fight ward again

Pretty smart move. Get the Brits to pay for this fight now rather than pay after he loses to Ward again.

Haye vs Fury and Froch vs Groves for the end of the year. A good time to be a British boxing fan. But if you think that sounds good, in October 1993 Lennox Lewis fought Frank Bruno and a week later Chris Eubank and Nigel Benn had their rematch!

In terms of biggest all-British fights that be made right now these two are definitely up there. I would think that Haye vs Fury is the biggest and Froch vs Groves is only rivalled by Khan vs Brook and Froch vs Cleverly. Of course all British fans would love to see Quigg vs Frampton but that wouldn't be any where near as big.

alvarado-provodnikov for october 19th fwiw

that will be an insane fight

Provodnikov is a monster. Only watched two fights, but he won every round of those two fights. If Alvardo can use his jab and move to the sides, it will be a very challenging fight for Provodnikov.

you must mean you watched two of his fights besides bradley right!

I like prov a lot just based off the bradley fight and this fight will be awesome but he did lose to Herrera right? I saw herrera fight about 3 times and he isn't that impressive

don't think either fighter will be anything more than a trivial fave but I don't claim to be an expert

i'll fully admit to having only really watched alvarado in the rios fights and prov in the bradley fight so i really have no clue what im talking about

Watched the Bradley fight. Amazed that Bradley stayed up most of the fight. Almost equally amazed that Provodnikov as well.

Provodkinov is a former sparring partner of Manny iirc. He's a warrior and Alvarado fight looks to be as entertaining as you can get.

Yes, he is a former sparring partner of Manny.

Will this be better or worse than Alvarado/Rios?

I don't think there will be as much action but both of them will definitely come to bang. I think the shots will be harder but not as many of them. Should be a very entertaining fight either way.

As far as styles go it should create lots of action. I see Cotto winning by a late TKO. D-Rod just lacks the punishing power to beat a guy like Cotto and his boxing skill level will never be on the Mayweather/Trout level.

Cotto should also be more hungry because his career is pretty much done if he loses. The big question though is whether Cotto has any gas left in the tank. Fortunately for him he's fighting a guy whose stamina levels are not that great so he should be able to wear him down in the later rounds. Should be decent overall.

Over there in the UK, do they think Groves will beat Froch? What's the sentiment there?

froch is their golden boy no way anyone can think he will lose it's gotta be pretty unlikely (haven't looked at the odds tho)
