Based on skill with accomplishments as a small consideration.

A high skill value normally corresponds to positive accomplishments so we'll roll with that.

as long as no one mentions Mayweather or Pac I'm happy. They are TINY welters. Imagine how they would look vs. Tommy Hearns. Oh what a bloodbath.

My list probably:

1. Sugar Ray Robinson obviously.
2. Ray Leonard
3. Kid Gavilan
4. Tommy Hearns
5. Napoles though i may put Pernell here if we value skill much higher than accomplishments.

Some guys like Armstrong etc could be in there but mostly out of accomplishments (pure accomplishment this list certainly looks different) but is harder to judge.

Someone linked the ring of fire documentary before. Emile Griffith sure have a case for being top5.

Mine is pretty close to yours. I've got:

1. Sugar Ray Robinson
2. Tommy Hearns
3. Ray Leonard
4. Jose Napoles
5. Barney Ross

I would have had Kid Gavilan in there if it wasn't for his lack of KO ability. Could also make a case for Joe Walcott since he was undersized for the division yet did so well.

Victor Ortiz v Shane Mosley is apparently in the works.

Shane, just retire already.

I'm surprised that Shane can even get a license given all the brain damage he has. He can barely make a coherent sentence.

He's 1-3-1 in his last 5 fights. He lost to Pacquiao, Mayweather, and Canelo. He drew against Sergio Mora and beat Pablo Cesar Cano (who?)

Most people think Cano beat Malignaggi in his last fight. Shane is still good enough to beat some good fighters but he should be kept far away from the best in the division.

Ready to see Mikey Garcia fight tonight. He's one of the most technically sound fighters I've ever watched. Shame he lost his title on the scales though. No excuse for that really.

EZ game for Garcia. JuanMa head is so stationary and Garcia is too much of a sharp shooter.

Mikey Garcia is unreal. He dismantles everyone he fights. Made that look like cake. Also a great stoppage by the ref.

Lol. 53 head shots and zero body shots for Garcia in the fight. Lopez needs neck training.

garcia seems really smart. said he knew jml wasnt hurt after the first knockdown, so he didnt go for the ko there.

im quite excited for the rest of the month. we get to see broner/malignaggi next week and then genaddy/macklin.

Dude's got a huge head to use as target practice

I'm beyond psyched for this fight, I thought there was next to no chance of it getting made in the next year.

On a funnier note Victor Ortiz is attempting to get back in the ring with Floyd.

Maybe I'm the only one, but I don't feel Canelo is going to do very well vs Floyd. Floyd seems to be the perfect figher to beat Canelo, shades of how he beat Corrales years ago. Pot shot, dance around, pot shot, dance around, wear him down, flurry, dance around. Canelo goes long stretches vs far worse fighters where he is very passive. He also gets hit by much slower punchers plenty often too.

His resume is a bit thin as well, and while he destroyed Lopez, Lopez wasn't too hard of a puncher, had no idea how to move away from the ropes, and he just sort of stood there in front of Canelo... sort of the perfect opponent for Alvarez. Floyd seems the opposite of that.

I thought Trout fought pretty well vs Canelo earlier this year too. Don't get me wrong, Canelo is a very good young fighter and his power is scary good. I just don't think he's there yet and Mayweather should be fighting his age/hand injuries as much as Canelo in my mind.

Having watched these two fight a decent bit, I really think Broner makes short work of him. Getting some odds for under 9.5 rounds seems like a steal too.

Only seen a bit of Macklin and Golovkin and I'm very excited for that one.

i dont doubt broner wins fairly easily, that said im still excited for tonight.

i enjoy malignaggi in the booth and his style in the ring, not that hes really good or anything, so maybe that's what has me hyped. ill be rooting for him to upset ab too.

Canelo showed things in his last fight that utterly surprised me. The work he did on his defence was on display and better then I thought him ever possible of. Or at least not for a long while. And that is essentially his only hope, imo. That those improvements continue in his training and sparring leading up.

This fight shouldn't happen this quick, unless it is all about money, or they (Canelo's people) know something we don't.

prob the $$.

It's not like we can wait a whole lot more time. Mayweather is getting old and he will probably not fight past 2015 imo.

I agree with all this. He showed some defense he had never shown in his last fight, ducking and blocking more punches than I thought he could. But still, Trout fought pretty well overall, is far inferior to Mayweather and Canelo went very long stretches vs Trout where he just didn't throw anything. I don't think he can get away with that against Mayweather.

Probably the $$ is right. Another popularity dud isn't acceptable to Showtime and this is likely the biggest fight by far (minus Pac Man, which is a giant hurdle for many reasons). Canelo can't duck Mayweather, especially if he just has to drop 2-3 lbs to make it work. Way too much money and way too much risk that he'll never get another shot if he doesn't take this. Makes sense for Floyd to take him as soon as possible too. Alvarez isn't likely to get worse as time goes on.

Maybe Arum will retire after Pac Man knocks out Rios and we'll get that clash of titans next year. I feel like Manny will fade faster than Floyd. Remember, Floyd has taken so few punches and fought so few fights in the last 5-7 years compared to so many good fighters that are still fighting older than he is now. Wouldn't surprise me if he stays near prime for his last few fights.

Yea I don't think he'll fight past this deal, but not because he wouldn't still be great. I just don't think he wants to retire 55-2 or whatever. I hope I'm wrong, because B-game Mayweather would still be fun to watch fight a lot of the young guys and guys we don't even know exist yet over the next 5 years.

Nothing wrong with a lopsided fight. Mayweather Gatti was fun and I think this could be a similar situation for Broner as it was for Mayweather going into it. Floyd had fought some better fighters going into that one and was rated better than Broner is today, but I think there are more similarities than not.

I'm rooting for Broner because it can lead to some exciting fights. I think he has a lot of potential for some great headlining action. I'd love to see him fight some of the biggest names at 140-147 and if he wins tonight handily he should be set for that.
