I'm pretty sure it's a level anyways.

Yo zugzwang, Mayweather vs. Alexander the Great, who wins? ATG 3/2 favourite imo, amirite?

Tebow imo.

brilliant tactic geddy, ask questions to which there are no right answers.

no right answer, that is, except for they BOTH win.

You know it's legit when Reuters covers the story.

Well, lol...I don't think this is "crossing the line" per se but it's still pretty lol.

Excerpt from the article above:

Mayweather, who improved his career record to 40-0 (25 KOs) with a unanimous points win over Mexican Juan Manuel Marquez in September, has criticised Pacquiao for deferring to his promoter.

"Tell Manny Pacquiao to be his own man and stop letting everyone, including his loudmouth trainer, talk for him," Mayweather said in a statement released by his promotions company on Monday.

"I am my own boss, speak for myself and tell it like it is. If Manny Pacquiao wants to fight me, all he has to do is step up to the plate and say it himself.

"I have yet to hear him actually say: 'Yes, I want to fight Mayweather.' Manny Pacquiao doesn't say anything directly about fighting me because he might just know it's not a fight he can win."

Gahhhhhhhhh...on a more tragic note, the chances of the fight happening in New York - specifically Yankee Stadium - are next to none, because of New York state tax laws.

Even worse for New York area sports fans...the new frontrunner for venue of choice is Cowboys Stadium...

its gonna be some time before this fight can happen. mayweather wont want to split 50/50 and pacquiao probably is entitled to no less than that. i guess nationalism made hoya bank and i could see the same for manny but we'll see if they can even agree on a number. floyd is notorious for using financial agreements as a way to not fight particular people. or at least how i see it.

man ..... I haven't gone out of my way to watch a fight since I think Hollyfield/Lewis in 1999 that ended in a draw. Pretty much turned me off boxing.

But I would def either be buying this on PPV or going to a bar to watch it.

Floyd will fight very passive for 12 rounds and then claim that the judges were blind and that he has never been knocked out before etc if he comes to the likely conclusion that he cannot beat Manny. I will be creaming my shorts if he does end up getting knocked out.

IMO, Pac by decision.

Pac is simply too fast for Mayweather to dodge all of his punches. Pac attacks you from so many awkward angles that Mayweather will be hit flush at times. I think PBF will have to attack more and might need to trade occasional shots to win this fight rather than just be a counter puncher.

A KO in this fight would be absolutely epic. However, I think that these fighters are simply too skilled to let it happen.

This is the Fight of the 21st Century. Ali/Frazier 1 can take the 20th century.

I dont' want to be a downer, but I predict and fear that this fight will not do the wonders for boxing that fans hope it will. Yes, it will break the PPV record. Likely shatter it. 2.5 million buys? 3 million buys? It's possible.

But even if the fight gets 3 million buys and meets all expectations, boxing won't suddenly be saved. The NFL isn't mega popular because of the Superbowl, it's mega popular because it delivers awesome entertainment week in and week out for 6 straight months. Boxing doesn't do that, and in it's current form, boxing can't do that. There are too many organizations, too many weight classes, too many fighters to keep track of.

Ten years ago, I was a big boxing fan. I would mark my calendar with all the non-PPV fights on HBO. I would watch the PPV replays the following week. But over time I lost interest for all the same reasons as other people and eventually became an MMA fan.

I sure as hell will watch Pacquiao-Mayweather, but will that re-ignite my fandom for boxing? No. All the problems with boxing are still there, and until they are fixed, I'm just not going to follow the sport, and neither will mainstream America.

As a major boxing outsider I agree with this for sure. This match would create a huge stage and generate tons of interest but not for boxing as a whole. It would help the sport somewhat. No reason boxing cannot become big again but the whole sport is just laughably organized from what I can tell. Or, not organized at all for that matter. Is the talent pipeline there?

This fight should take place in a huge stadium and not some dingy casino in Vegas were all of 12,000 people get to watch it live in person. Yankee Stadium a good option.

This fight will happen, guessing around May-June time and I for 1 cannot wait.

from wiki

"Oscar De La Hoya ended up earning $52 million for the bout, the highest purse ever for a fighter. The previous record was $35 million, held by Tyson and Holyfield. Floyd Mayweather earned $25 million for the fight."

Possible 40+ million for each fighter.

If you mean for PPV, don't give them any ideas! $65 for HD with horrible undercards is bad enough.

Great post OP.

I think of this fight as a BP commercial...it's not perfect, but it's a start.

The Super Six and Pac-PBF are very promising signs. Let's start with putting together the best fights possible, get people talking again, and then we can start to clean up the mess. MMA's increasing market share will force boxing to shed layer after corrupt layer of inefficient practices until it's lean enough to compete for market dominance again. At least that's my hope...maybe I'm too naive.

Let's go Pac-Man. I'm half Flip but who can like Floyd anyways. Pac has been awesome lately and I'd expect nothing different. He also doesn't dodge other great fighters.

I know next to nothing about the sport, so I'm not trying to be controversial here, I'm just curious. What's the story with PBF dodging people? He had to take all those belts at some point, right? Is there someone he should fight before Pac or are the people he dodged too old or whatever to fight him now?

He took a lot of heat for turning down $8 mil US to fight Antonio Margarito in favour of a title defense against Carlos Baldomir in 2006.

His year-and-a-half "retirement" after the Hatton fight in '07 also appeared to be one big elaborate duck...he's been quoted as saying "if I leave, the sport is dead", so why retire at the peak of your abilities and earning potential, when an abundance of elite fighters like Cotto, Mosley, Margarito and Paul Williams were ready and willing to fight? Any of those bouts would've been massive draws.

Instead, Floyd took his time, let those guys beat up on each other and eased his way into another big payday by fighting a vastly overmatched Marquez - who's a great fighter in his own right but had no chance in hell of hurting Floyd at welterweight. Marquez is a dominant lightweight at 135 lbs., but the Mayweather fight was his first ever time he fought at "welterweight" with a catchweight of 144 lbs...not only that, Mayweather missed weight by 2 pounds and incurred a $600k fine. The whole premise of the fight was a farce imo.
