qb a having receivers w/better yac than qb b doesn't make him better
I don't think this is entirely true, good qbs are able to hit open receivers in stride and let them get into the open field with speed, but the Marion Barber play was just a simple check down that the Cardinals defended horribly.

I think Romo is far from average, but I don't think he is as good as I thought he was going to be going into the season. As a Giants fan I was pretty scared about how good he was going to be, but I think he has come down closer to the pack.

Why does every team I start rooting really hard for get ****ed over/injured? My two favorite players, Romo and Newman, are both out now. Cool. And I'm a huge Suns fan, that's gone well the past few years. Sweet.

Meh, I don't see this as necessarily catastrophic. I think Brad is good enough to get us a W vs. StL. TB's probably close to a pick 'em, and NYG kicks the **** out of us. So either 5-4 or 6-3 going into the bye week, and Romo should be back after that. Obv we win out the rest of the schedule once Romo comes back.

I'm probably being too optimistic though. :P

The Cowboys have been super lucky in terms of injuries the past couple of seasons according to guys at FO.

I think they'll be fine as long as her strap on doesn't break.

As a Vikings fan and more importantly an absurdly irrational Daunte Culpepper homer, it gives me great pleasure to watch Brad Johnson look horrible and make terrible decisions and throws and just basically hobble around. So these couple weeks should be a real treat.

accuracy certainly matters b/c the qb has to give the receiver a chance to make a move, but in general i think most of the yac is generated by the wr. obv if the qb can't get the ball into the wr's hands then the wr can't run, but unless a qb has atrocious accuracy receivers are doing most of the work imo.

I have a question tarheel. I see your point but I don't think you can just retract big yac td's. The reason I don't think you can is b/c if the Barber td didn't happen how do we know Romo doesn't complete 8 passes all the way down the field and 1 for a td? You don't, so how do you take away what did happen? I don't know if I am expressing what I am thinking correctly, I hope this makes sense.

let me back up b/c i'm not trying to say romo isn't good. more than anything i'm saying qb rating is flawed. i know what you are getting at by saying you can't remove the yards, but here is why i'm doing so-- assume that instead of that short throw and long run by barber for a td, barber gets decent but not big yardage (~10 yds) and romo then

a) throws 7 more passes that still result in a score (assume he goes 7/7 for simplicity)

b) throws a 60 yd bomb which results in a td on the next play

he will have the same amount of yardage, and will have still thrown a td, but his qb rating will be lower in both instances and it should be obvious that he was better in the latter two plays. say that there are cases c) and d) which are like a) and b) except barber ends up scoring on a 2yd carry. here romo's rating will fall, but he will have done more to create the points. again, i'm not saying romo isn't good, or that he didn't play well. i'm saying that qb rating fails and as a result his rating is skewed in this game

edit: so in terms of evaluating his play in this game, i wouldn't put too much stock into the 70 yard td b/c barber was the one who turned it into a extraordinary play. romo is good, but it's not b/c marion barber can run by the cardinals' secondary

I dunno how you really 'punish' pro athletes besides cutting them / taking their money but Dallas's line sure ****ing deserves it for letting their bull**** lazy footwork / dumbassery get their star QB and star punter killed and put their teammates, coaches etc. in a situation where they'll be lucky to make the playoffs. What a ****ing disgrace.

And this is kind of what I was getting at earlier when I said that qb rating isn't something to completely measure a quarterback by but it can be one measure that aids in the overall picture. It should be looked at with a grain of salt. Like Batting Average, not a good measure for hitting but can still be used even with its flaws as well as much better metrics for measuring hitting.

Per rotoworld:

ESPN's Ed Werder reports that Brett Favre called Tony Romo and "advised" him to do everything possible to play through his broken pinkie injury.
The injury is expected to keep Romo's out four weeks, ending his consecutive game streak at 30. Favre explained to Romo how he played with a splint on his injured thumb a couple of years ago to maintain his own streak. There's been no indication that Romo will try to play through the injury, but this could set up a shorter timetable to return if Romo can play with a splint.
